I've now tested fast ZII with my Buddha 20th anniversary and it went from about 2.3 mb/s to 3.5 mb/s with the switch fastZII enabled in rom. That's a pretty healthy bump in performance.

Now I just need to figure out how to get this working with my CV3D. I really want to do some benchmarking and paste into this thread to show the performance of the same card, in the same machine in Z-II, fast Z-II and Z-III in an A3000.

It appears that CV64/3D might not support fast-ZII at all:

I guess the hardware databases should be notified about this.

I would not dismiss it based on Jens post.

The Fast-ZII mode was not a feature that appeared when those A1200 busboards went out to the public.

So probably there was more than one implementation of that Fast-ZII feature.

As an example, of this, I can tell you for a fact that some MacroSystem boards manufactured in the early 90's worked in Fast-ZII mode. I know that, because I have a DraCo (manufactured in 1996) that takes advantage of such cards by design, and has a tool that was specifically designed for that purpose by MacroSystem (DraCoZ2Control 1.0 dated 7.11.95) way before any of those A1200 busboards appeared.

That might very well be true, @gulliver, but I've posted this question everywhere and contacted those that I've thought to contact and I've not heard from a single person who can confirm that the card works in Fast-ZII, or suggest any steps to take in order to unlock such a feature in the card if it exists.

Do you mean to say that the different incarnations of Fast ZII might work differently and that one busboard might be supported and another not?

@Overmann

I don't know what transpired in your particular case.

All I know for a fact is, that there were more than one Fast-ZII implementation.
The one I showed you predates the ACT/Winner/Elbox one that Jens made reference to.

What and how did the one from DCE worked? I have absolutely no clue. I have no clue even if it worked at all. But I remember that it was an advertised feature back then. Amigakit sold those DCE graphic cards, maybe they know more.
