Possible?

Does anyone have knowledge of this or experience doing so?

You can convert it more or less permanently to an Atari compatible controller easily, but no USB -> Atari stick converters exist.

I think we'll have to wait for microcontrollers to get a little better before they can be USB hosts..

Of course I must admit I haven't really been following what they can do nowadays.

well off the top of my head you would need a programmable PIC maybe a 16Fxxx

and the ability to decode HID code, this might need a smidge of memory, not to much about 8k should be enough for a simple HID decode table... technically you would be able to 'emulate' a two button joystick or even with a bit research a cd32 pad with a USB device.

arguably if you wanted to go through the motions, you could write a small program that would allow a input from a keyboard plugged. not sure what use that would be lol...

I will lookie into this i thinks

hmm sod the PIC An Atmega8 16 Micro-controller could do most of the job to be honnest and thier cheap.

you would need a decoding reference for HID Game devices, like maybe a smidge of memory... this would envolve writing a bit of firmware for the atmega8 mc. but its not that hard, if you understand C,

Doesn't have to be USB... playstation or indeed any current day controller would suit me fine.

Acuallty have a few old ps1 controllers around, may hack one apart and see what I can figure out...
