Problem after reinstalling Windows
I reinstalled Windows, WinUAE and all Microsoft updates and now when I enable the PAL-M filter the emulated cpu usage goes to 200 percent when I use an AGA Workbench. I am using the latest version of WinUAE. This didnt happened before.

Makes a helluva difference compared to Windows drivers. |

Nothing changed in my setup*, except the drivers which were updated, like the drivers for a GeForce 7200GS. Before the driver update, the PAL-M filter was very very fast.

PAL filter requires lots of (too much) CPU power. You sure you use exact same configuration?
Perhaps you used D3D but forgot to update to latest DX runtime and it uses DirectDraw mode now? Not that it would cause such a big difference.. |

It is the same configuration because I did all exactly like before. I let Microsoft Update install the drivers for my computer, and some, like the video driver, I install by hand. At the beginning I was using WinUAE 2.2.0 and installed WinUAE 2.3.0 quickly after it was released, but my computer continues to suffer from the same problem. And the DirectX Web Installer reported that my system is uptodate.
PS. I did some corrections in the text, but if it is hard to understand, post to me and I will explain. I dont write well but I can read many things you write, so you can post for me answer. Last edited by Leandro Jardim; 02 October 2010 at 22:30. Reason: Correction |

I installed the version 1.6.1.0 of WinUAE and the screen is black and the emulation appears to halt if I enable the PAL filter since the start of the emulation. And if I enable the deinterlacer the cpu load goes to 160 - 200 percent.
It happens also with later versions, even with the quickstart. But the black screen at startup is gone with later versions. In my computer, the problem with the black screen appeared first with the "blacker than black" option. I dont know if this is only a coincidence. EDIT: syntax error. Those problems above also happens on a notebook of my father, from the same manufacturer. I am not sure, but on both computers the problem looks to depend on the order of the updates installed by Windows Update.

The problem I had was with the power management feature of Windows. I could not believe this, because of the dramatic slowdown of WinUAE, much higher than what I would expect from this feature.
Now my computer is blazingly fast (and WinUAE is very happy with it!) If you are using WinUAE and have problems with speed, disable energy saving completely! It would not do any harm, and at least for my computer it did miracles! Last edited by Leandro Jardim; 25 November 2010 at 23:34. |

You never mentioned anything about your PC specs, OS version etc..
My crystal balls says it is this usual problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895980 |

Thanks Toni.
My PC is a Pentium Dual Core 2.60 GHz with 3 GB RAM, the video card is a GForce 7200GS and the OS is Windows Vista Home Basic. The article gave to me some light to the subject, but it only says about Windows XP/2000 and AMD processors. But at least, my machine have a feature to control the CPU fan (which does the job of the AMD Cool'n'Quiet technology). I have it disabled now. I would be amazed to see what your crystal ball shows now... Last edited by Leandro Jardim; 03 December 2010 at 20:01. Reason: More polite. |

The option "/usepmtimer" has to be put in the boot.ini file, but Windows Vista uses another boot manager different from the Windows XP, so the same thing cannot be done in it.
One guy from Brazil said that option is enabled by default on Windows Vista. Is this true? Or, how can I enable it? Or, even better, how I can fix this bug? If you know the answer for this question, do not forget to post here, in this same page, in this same forum! Found the hotfix for it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956563/ Hope this helps somebody more! Last edited by TCD; 26 November 2010 at 00:07. |
