@Thomas

hmmm strange, the last time i test sysinfo on a 1.1GB 3.5" HDD (+060@50 32MB FPM)

on native IDE (ata 33 40pin cable) 1.6MB per sec read

on IDEFix97 (same setup as above) 1.9MB per sec read

write times seemed un-effected.

unfortuately i lost the manual ages ago, and autodocs are akward to read, but I was only speaking from experience and various setups that have worked under IDE fix and i agree, you certainly know more about the amiga IDE than i do (wich isn`t that difficult lol)

BUT if having IDEFix is required at startup (i have this removed on my amiga a600 atm) why is it that it works happly with two devices on BOTH chains ?

@stuntpup

I have found that on a physical level any more than 2 devices (no matter the chain) it was better to put devices in CS mode and let the device and cable position sort it out.

using that method I had no trouble setting the following on an a1200 (060@50 +32MB)
  • Primary Channel
    • Hard disk 4GB (3.5")
    • Medion CDRW 16x16x8
  • Secondary
    • Hard disk 1.1GB (3.5")
    • LS120

The only problem that surfaced was when i tried to copy a large (say 10MB) file TO the ls120 drive from the amiga, it would either hang the system (wich 50% it would finnish after 10 - 15 minutes) or guru, and it seemed to do either depending on the weather lol.

I wonder if the revision of motherboard might be a factor.... after all you seemed to of tried pretty much everything else. maybe there is a timing fix required?
