I resent the Sonic movie being out in cinemas

I showed a couple of Amiga games and a several Amiga demos to my sister, but ever since she said she found Sonic on a Mega Drive at a friend's house "more exciting", I've never forgiven her for her betrayal.

Face it, Amiga is >>>>>>>> Mega Drive/Genesis. End of.

And what has this got to do with the Sonic movie?

I think most games were better on consoles (simulators, strategy and adventure games were The exception though)

Nothing but meaningless drivel. I owned both for many, many years and it's painfully obvious that the Megadrive is a far superior gaming machine.

The Amiga is a fantastic computer, but it's shit for games.

Mega drive can only do platformers. Try getting a flight sim or settlers to run it. Amiga is the best all round games machine of the 16bit generation

I thought this is gonna be about CGI=sacrilege, but this old chestnut again? SNES/Megadrive: better for action games. Amiga: better for all other games + computing (my preference).

Why is it that people on teh intehnets mostly only allow for binary opinions? Either something totally sucks or is the best in class. Smh.

Could an A500 do Sonic? I believe it can. I never played any Mega Drive games at all, but I did try Mario once on an NES, but didn't like the basic gameplay.

Hasn't this been discussed to death already? If it was possible (as in, not severely cut down), someone would've done it already.

I have always had Amiga (ok, after C64) and never had any console in 90s and so on. I have acquired a Megadrive few years ago, though. Because of Golden Axe, Sonic and Streets of Rage. Amiga is the best of the best, but still - there are games, that are better on other platforms.

We (i.e. me and the 2 boys) are going to see Sonic this weekend. I'm not expecting a thought provoking intelligent storey, I am expecting light hearted fun and Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey which is usually very funny. Have you ever watched the sonic cartoons, they are equally stupid. At least it can't be as bad as the Mario film which by all rights is actually amazing just because its so bad.

There is a tendency these days to jump all over any new media and just call it crap. I'll give it a chance.

Now, that is my response to what I thought this topic was going to be about.....

As for the actual content. Megadrive does was Nintendon't but after Sega brought you their new baby, Commodore brings you the mother.

I think we've had this discussion enough times to know by now that Amiga is probably the best all round of the 3. The Mega Drive specialises in action games and Nintendo does what it does, I don't care.

To be fair, Kid Chaos was a pretty close approximation of Sonic on Amiga

Just one look at the Megadrive game tells me: no, you can't.

Amiga OCS cannot do parallax with that many colors in fore- and background, plus that kind of variation in the background and that many and big objects in the foreground.

Yes, at least AGA could do it, if not A500.

It's great that Sonic is still so iconic. I sometimes wonder if Commodore hadn't went bust, which game character they would have used for marketing their brand. Zool is the obvious choice with Nintendo and Sega going with Mario and Sonic.

Blaze is basically Sonic for Amiga - I think the source is even available it would be interesting if a different background could be added, I've haven't looked but the Map is probably not to hard to edit. But this thread Sonic didn't stop in the 16 bit era it continued well past it.

I think the Author said he redraws everything on screen like Toki Amiga, Blaze is 25fps but still amazing.
