30 second love dungeon challenge!

Love dungeon is a single screen game where you control our hero who has 1 minute to collect all the hearts, easy right? Sure but how about beating your personal best time or the world record!

It's all about getting the perfect route and perfect run down that route.

There is no adult content in this game it's just a suggestive title really.

Coded in 100% asm it should work on all amigas, if it doesn't let me know.

I've tried to make everything smooth and intuitive and gone for a 1980s Konami feel (hopefully).

If you do try it, please let me know what you think, good or bad...

Beta 3 is in the zone, pretty much all the presentation is done now. A little more polish, nice title music and 1 or 2 small bugs and it should be ready ☺

My best so far is 2D (you know the time counts in hexadecimal. It is supposed to?).

I would take a snapshot, but by the time you collect the last heart, it starts again straight away. No time to take pics

Edit: Best time now was 24, now is 21 (and I have marked my route on an image too, just incase there are any doubts)

It shouldn't start until you press and release fire button.

2d isn't bad, I managed a 1f earlier.

Tip, you can move horizontally on ladders slightly ☺ also if you want to grab everything, keep fire held down.

yeah the times are in hex as I haven't written any decimal routines yet, but all amigans know hex right?

It's not a complete game or anything, just a little playable part I thought I'd package.

Thanks for trying it, did you play on real hardware or emulation?

Edit: 24 is getting close to the world record where your will hear the awesome music if you beat it!

Another tip, jump up to ladders rather than walk under and then up - it can shave a few fractions of a second off the time, which by the end of the level can be an additional second or so.

Emulation (WinUAE 2.0.1)

Bah! I wish I had known that beforehand. I had sound off so I can watch the tennis (Statoil matches, currently McEnroe vs. Leconte).

Real amiga, 25 time units, had 2 wrong moves on the way, so possibly it could be 23.
Basicly quake style jumping all level, but a bit difficult to be precise using a joypad.

It`s just a A1200 040/40 3.1. The problem with the freezed clock is (I guess) a well known problem. Some few games/tools have the same problem. So someone should be able to explain you the causer. Might be an easy kill/restore system thing.

I changed my route slightly and eaked out every possible shortcut (jumping to ladders) to get 1E!

I have this new route marked on an image and I will upload both my routes to this thread around the end of December - so that other players have the time to play this and see if they can find the optimum route too

Wow 1e I'd an amazing time! You will be put in the final game as the world record holder Lonewolf10 unless anyone can better that amazing time! So how are you guys finding the game at this early stage, controls OK? Do you feel they are responsive, does bruce always do as you expect him to. Graphics OK? Any comments very welcome!

I was thinking of possibly making a better version of love dungeon with a few different screens, a title screen, high scores that save etc, should only take a few hours to make, any interest?

I like the graphics. The controls are pretty intuitive.

Yeah, it could be a great standalone game.

OK, I will finish it tonight. Might put a test version in the zone for some quick feedback, I don't want to spend too much time on it. I'm working on the enemy ai for Bruce Lee ☺

Beta version is in the zone, hope you like it. Would love feedback before I make a release version.

Had a couple of reports of things not being quite right.

RTC pausing while game is running.

Mouse pointer not appearing after exiting game.

Floppy disk still spinning when game starts.

I'm looking into the above, any advice welcome.

To do :
Save and load game stats
Escape key to quit current level
Tweak level 3, it's not that great, but it will do for now

Let's hear what you think about it!

It's not adult in nature, just a little cheeky here and there. If you search for Bruce Lee Amiga preview on YouTube (s2325 put it on his channel ) it uses the same graphics and engine, you run around a single screen jumping and climbing trying to collect all the love hearts in under a minute and beat your personal best time or the world record for each screen. Simple pick up game play, and your game is over in a single minute! I would post a video but I'm on mobile Internet for the moment.

This is normal since the system is killed. 99% of all demos/games have this "problem".

Check if the correct DMA settings are restored upon exit.

Add short delay of 1 or 2 seconds before switching off the OS. You could also turn off the drive motors directly but a short delay should do well in most cases is simpler to implement.
