Project 500 starts...
Well another Miggy landed on my door a few hours ago.
Specs are; Revision 5 PCB - so she's a golden oldie Anywho onto the pics (some horror pics too might I add) Firstly I heard rattling when I got her out of the box so before switch on I took the case off... to find... The daughter board for the Power Computing 1.5mb ram expansion had worked loose from the Gary socket crushing the socket pins on the Power Computing thingy.. Bent pins - some were broken so gonna have to think of how to fix this (maybe).. It also had a Power Computing Kickstart ROM sharer which I've removed for the time being as I don't have a sodding clue how to work it - does anyone else?! The seller thought if you soft boot the Amiga WB 2.0 comes on but it doesn't WB1.3 loads fine though. Got all these disks too! So atm she's sorta stripped ready for a bath and to bring her back upto standard If you've seen my A530 restoration thread this will get the same treatment Probably be able to get the bulk of it done this weekend. The Rom sharer has a model number of PC517 Rev 3 on it - does anyone know what the jumpers and a way to enable it? Might put it back in but with KS3.1 on as well for the best of both worlds Happy days are here again, love a strip and clean job. Oh she works great btw - had her running a few hours with some demos going. The disk drive seems a lot quieter on the older machines I've noticed - even with the cover off |

I think i may have some turned legs some where if you want to do it yourself... i will have a lookie... |

If anything my friend, you should know by now I am a complete sucker when it comes to restoration projects, and this one REALLY is worth the effort.. I don't mind replacing the strip for you... after all its nominal component cost and postage is piffle, and in some small way i get to be a small part of it even if its just posting you a strip to solder on yourself. what ever and when ever you wish to do my friend. |

@Keropi-san
Oh no.... I am just glad to be a part of it, even if its just viewing the hardware pr0n Since I have only really done the A600+ project, which i am terrible i seriously need to update it. I believe that restoration pimp king is a close runner between you and paul s, I have a couple of other projects on the go (one of them being restoration, but i have put EVERYTHING on the back burner until i get these Svideo Boards done. to which I have just finished drilling them today |

There were other casualties tonight in Project 500.
It's non-commodore PSU on testing went bang - a black nuclear cloud appeared above and it didn't half pong Thankfully it didn't take the A500 along with it (now running on my ATX power house ) Other non-saved souls are the a520 modulator which gave a very bad picture/crackly sound have also bitten the dust! Also the Commodore mouse is beyond saving, piece of carp anywho! But we still have the A500, rom sharer, 1.5mb upgrade (which Zetro will be fixing - woohoo ) and its external floppy which I've tested ok Last edited by Paul_s; 25 October 2007 at 20:04. |

I'll take a stab and say the Kick switch may be a Kick Off board, if it is you switch ROMs by holding the 3 fingered salute for 6 seconds to change to the secondary ROM. Close-ups of both sides of the board without any ROMs in might be enough to figure out how the jumpers work.

Just finished off cleaning the main plastics on the 500... unfortunetly some yellowing is still there but it's clean - that's all that matters. No longer filthy - check out the 2nd pic with all the junk inbetween the slats
Before... serial sticker peeled off before washing... after bath Used some washing powder for that and a mix of power cleaner edit: still to do; Clean shielding Clean keyboard Clean PCB with cleaner Clean out internal floppy and polish outer Refit 1.5mb power computing expansion once it's been refettled by Zetro Screw back together! |

that modulator your about declare useless, if you want I can build into it a Narmi Deluxe for you mate so it would look "Stock" but provide much better features... also some of them components on the modulator might provide useful |

Hi,
As far as the busted power supply goes, you could do the mod I did: http://www.amiga.org/modules/newbb/v...=41018&forum=8 Which will keep the original look, but give you a 120W PSU, here is a pic: I can help you with specifics if you are interested. -(e) |
