Stunt car racer Pro and SCR at 60fps

Hi all,

SCR is one of my all time favourite games of all time - I'm so surprised that more games these days don't try to emulate the incredible physics this game has.

Anyway, one of my dreams has been to see SCR at 60fps, and have it really smooth. Has this ever been considered? A remake of SCR seems around 20-30fps but it lacks the physics of the stunning original.

And last but not least, can we ever hope to see SCR Pro? I heard in the latest Retrogamer that it was never released because the company went bankrupt. Do any of you know Geoff Crammond's email, because I'd like to see if there's hope for it. Heck even a screenshot would be amazing.

Explained in there why it never happened. I would also say it's highly unlikely it ever would happen - sadly.

Yes, it would seem he at least got a demo working though? I'm hoping to pester him to release it for free, or maybe even sell it somehow. Failing that, I'd love to at least see some screenshots.

Don't tell me he lost the code....

I think Galahad did a Turbo Edition of Stunt Car Racer for faster Amigas?

Cool, I didn't think that was possible because of the way the game was coded? Obviously not.

Ah, it is built into the later WHDload versions (Seems to only work correctly on 020 and 030)

http://www.whdload.de/games/StuntCarRacer.html

And can be activated even for SCR TNT by AmiGer/CARE

http://www.discreetfx.com/Care/scrtnt.htm

When using WHDLoad

Very pleased to hear this! There was a nice thread on it a while back, which also discussed getting other games such as Lotus 3, Elite 2, Powerdrift and many others smoother too.

Only problem for me is, I can't get it to work. I use this file and boot from emulated floppy:
Stunt Car Racer (1989)(MicroStyle)[f AGA Galahad][h][Stunt Car Racer Turbo].adf

I have tried all number of combinations of chipset timing and CPU, but I can't get a smoother experience. If I try to press F3 during the game, it only makes the whole thing stupidly fast, which isn't the same thing as smooth.

Any ideas? I can't wait to see SCR at 60fps.

I wonder what was in that PDF, link no longer alive.

Just recently found this article with a video about Stunt Car Racer Pro, which looked rather good.

That's interesting. And I think it shows how Stunt Car Racer was an early forerunner to Trackmania. Or with other words, if you create an advanced version of SCR you get an early version of TM Man, how often we played TM on our X-Mas Lan parties, good times.

Amiger did a nice Job with the TNT (TheNewTracks) version but I couldn't get much higher framerates too (tried f.e. with an A1200/030@40). I played the game to death in the old days and also love'd to see a version that does 50 or 60 fps on acc Amigas. Preferably with the original tracks. But I guess that's not an easy task.

Here is an old thread where Amiger shows a screenshot of his Track Editor. https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=13986

Maybe if they made a kickstarter for SCR Pro it would succeed.

There is a port of SCR to Linux and Emscripten

https://github.com/ptitSeb/stuntcarremake
http://ptitseb.github.io/stuntcarremake/

in case someone needs 60fps.
