A2000 startup issue

Hi all,

I've an Amiga 2000 that has been working correctly however when I came to switch it on recently the following occured.

1. System powers on (nothing shown on the screen)
2. Power LED blinks 10 times short and 1 time long
3. Screen goes white

The system doesn't have a battery in so I know that thats not the issue. Does anyone have a clue as to the led error code?

Thanks in advance
Conrad

What expansions have you got in it?

The only expansion in a A2090 SCSI controller. I have removed the card but blinking led still occurs.

I've got the feeling that this may be a little bit terminal

Cheers

heys xport, and welcome to EAB.

the flashing led symptom is identical to another issue involving another A2000, it turned out that the RAM had not been seated properly.

just double check that your main memory(s) are nice and tight home.

I not 100% but believe that the white screen means that memory fault, specifically chipram. ( i could be wrong here so do a search on these boards for A2000 problems )

if it is damaged or dead memory chips i am sure you can get from ebay lol.. hell you can get EVERYTHING from ebay.

Thanks for the welcome, I've been around a little while bit I'm a watcher

Well reseating has brought back a little bit more life the boot process shows a green screen and then stops on a yellow one.

After a second reboot it now gets stuck on green, which is probably chip mem?

Cheers

If it shows a green screen, it is quite possible that it is the Agnus chip (controls chipmem) which isn't making good contact in the socket any longer because of oxidation or similar. It is seldom the chip memory itself which fails. Get a plcc extractor tool (~4 quid) and reseat it. The plastic in the socket is so old by now, so it will break if you try to remove Agnus without an extractor.
