freakywookie! it's 2 years already since that KG zipstick! you should post here more!
Frontier... if it had the same spirit of the amiga game... it would prolly be an amiga game. i think it will hardly be a good game, me too. |

It's going to be shite. You can just feel it.
It needed to be ground breaking and I dont see anything like that. The MMOSTG has been done with Eve-Online. It would take something very special to make a mark. Perhaps if it were subscription free. With a unique way to fund the servers, in-game ad sponsorship, real currency exchange, intergalactic commercial radio stations etc. |

I think Earth and Beyond was the best space / simulator game every written, shame EA killed WestWood Studio's. I will never waste money on an online game again. Not even for a game like Elite. |

MOST MMOSTGs have been done.
Agree with alexh. If there is an enjoyable Elite, I'll pay for it before I pay for, say, WoW. :P I've got Sins of a Solar Empire. It never gets played. It all depends on the gameplay/immersion/enjoyability. |

To my mind David Braben over complicated Frontier and the whole thing felt a bit fussy sometimes - still enjoyed quite a bit of my time with it though
Hopefully the essence of what Elite was to us back then can be retained but it's true, it needs to stand head and shoulders over what exists today in this genre I'm not entirely trusting that DB can do that but another side of me thinks maybe he too realises it has to be all out awesome like how it felt to us all those years ago - i hope so at least Elite back then felt so great because it was so very different to any other game and that's going to be hard to emulate again Last edited by Adropac2; 17 June 2009 at 05:02. |

I remember an interview last year with Braben, and he stated that to do Elite IV the technology (in PC terms) was 4 years off.
strange how less than a year down the line theres an announcement for Elite IV for the PC, X360 and PS3..... hmmmm... (i know you are thinkin cash cow alexh!) lets hope he does something good with it.... I need a reason to kick the wifie and kiddie outa the living room, close the curtains turn the lights off, crank up the volume and get emersed in a serious space sim!!! |

I don't think the technology is a problem, even if he says it is. He has been planning or actually working on E4 for a long time now, I don't think he would have decided to make a game which would only be possible 10+ years into the future. What made the previous Elites so special was that nobody thought games like that were possible.
It better be another ground breaking game because he has had long enough to prepare and iron out any problems. I don't want Elite becoming like duke nukem, laughed at every time there is another press release or talk about release dates. |

It will be something amazing if it does make it to release and is a true sequel that really pushes the franchise on from the ideas of Frontier.
However, we have seen so many promises of great projects end up shelved or never really started. Totally agree. E&B was a great game. I played it from release until the day it was closed down. It was something that you can't really describe to anyone who never played it. I still have the game in its box sitting on my shelf. Never to be used again. |

WooHoo!
Oh, how I'd love to see a new Elite... ...ah, wait a miniute. If it's ever released it's going to be sh1t isn't it? Have to wait on technology..? Horse-poo! Whatever a 'new' Elite might be it's 'only' an update for a game that ran fine on the Beeb... ...who here has played Oolite? Fantastic, extensible, capable of just about anything you can think of in a space game AND it runs on seriously low-spec hardware... ...how much extra go does a PC need to pretty-up the basic concept. Um, do you all get the feeling I have a bit of a thing for Elite? |
