The sound is disabled by default. Now if you enable sounds then you can have a different volume for disk access and drive click.

The old way would result in both the drive click and disk access sound dependent on the windows volume settings.

You can now control whether you want drive sounds or drive clicks, both or none, with volume controls to suit you.
