Its a stupidly expensive PowerPC based motherboard that can run AmigaOS apps which do not rely on any of the custom chipsets (MOrphOS is comaptible with AmigaOS binaries). It is not an amiga, you cant play games on it (except by emulation) etc. etc.

So it's pretty much the same results one would get if he uses a normal Pentium 4 PC with Cloanto's Amiga Forever 6.0 emulator?

No. Probably emulation with WinUAE is better. For one, you CAN play old games n shit. I do not know the state of Amiga emulators on MorphOS but I would say they are nowhere near as advanced as WinUAE.

Hi!
Well, the Pegasos2 is a cool monster!
I have MorphOS, Debian,Suse,Gentoo,Crux,Mandrake, YellowDog,
MacOS9,Jaguar,Panther(via mol) running on it!
For Amiga-ECS/AGA-games there is a mos-version of the newest linux-uae from evilrich...
MOS is very compatible to classic AmigaWB soft (f.e. I made the cd32-444
on it...). Very cool system in my eyes...

Hmm OK.
Now I am confused
how good is this linux-uae and its applicability to the Pegasos with MorphOS?
I suspect not as good as WinUAE on a Pentium 4 PC eh?

Not as good, you are right. evilrich's UAE build is based on winUAE and is pretty darn good, but not as good as winuae in a P4 I think. One of the things is that it just will not have JIT under anything but an x86 processor. Thats the Pegasos.

Actually the 600 Mhz G3 version wasnt that expensive if you consider that it isnt a mainstream product.

I hadnt lost my interest in Amiga I would have bought one.

Nope.

Don't get me wroing, it is an interesting system, but just for the one who can get any use out of it.As an Amiga replacement it's just stupid.

And I would rathe rget an Apple iBook or eMac anyday, the price of a Pegasos is quite unjustified IMO.

You shouldnt get a Pegasos if you want an "super fast Amiga". It clearly isnt for the most Part.
That said its an alternative to the horrible x86 Architecture, much cleaner and more efficient than the "PC". MorphOS is also a technically interesting and promising OS, but I suppose its doomed because of greed of the Manufacturer/Distributor( Genesi ).
I was very temptet to get one and starting developing for it, until i read that

I just got a Pegasos II system today and it is a very fast Amiga like system. MorphOS boots in about 3-4 seconds. Very nice machine so far. I will let everyone know how I like it once I have more time to spend with it.

Too bad that there probably won't be any more updates to MorphOS - or the Pegasos itself.

Read the stuff at http://www.morphos.net ... plus, there are some threads at ann.lu and the other sites.

A pity, really. However, there's always the AmigaOne.

I'm still waiting for that..

I tried the Pegasos and it was quite a fun little machine with MorphOS1.4.. Sold it after waiting too long for version 1.5

However I'm not buying an AmigaOne before OS4 is finalized. After that, we'll see.

I would probably have kept the Pegasos if I had had a Pegasos II, the first incarnation wasn't very well suited for running a Linux only system.

Heh, well at least I can't count myself as one of those whose whole life revolves around the wait for OS4.

If it ever comes out, I'll probably give it a try. If it doesn't, Big Deal.. I'll continue using my Classic Amigas and my PCs, like I'm doing now. :-)
