Great stuff

What should I do with this, if anything? I can't really justify spending time sprucing it up, now that I actually achieved my dream of a CD32 FMV game with Time Gal.

Nothing else for the time being, but could the audio volume possibly be increased in this prototytpe?

It's very low indeed, not sure if it's the same on a real CD32

Frame rate: 8FPS
Resolution: 320x128 (artificially doubled to 320x256 in game)
To keep the aspect ratio you need to make a movie with a resolution of 320x64.
This way you can increase the amount of fps or do create animations HAM8.

Cheers mate! Maybe I'll finish it sometime in the future though to be honest now that Time Gal is out it'd be hard to make something as good as that using Blue Thunder as a base.

That video is cool. It does actually multitask well so long as you don’t access the CD drive.
For example, loading the Workbench clock first, then a VCD, the clock doesn’t miss a beat:

Plus back in the day, if you had an SX-1 or the expansion Commodore were planning,
to boot the console from HDD, why wouldn’t you want to start a video from Workbench?

I thought Microcosm was supposed to contain FMV, but I haven’t tried it.

One thing I do know, the original CD32 Demo CD ver 2.0 plays the CD32 commercial
in MPEG if you have the module (otherwise the small CDXL player),
and also a music video by Seal is available from the menu which only appears at all
if you have the FMV module.

HI earok and congratulation for this very original game, good for the CD32 cause like many fmw games it don't need a strong cpu ! do you think that it could be possible That (thanks to extra memory extension tf328 that I so happy to have ) some fmw games from dos of other (I saw that road avenger will come) could be adapted on our CD32 ? like the hilarious and well done "wing nuts" or "nova storm" cause they just needed a 386DX or 486 slc cpu intel and 4 mo ram.

Hey mate, thanks for the kind words.

Novastorm is something that -should- have come out on CD32, given it's heritage with Microcosm and it's release on the CD32's contemporaries, and we know that a CD32 version was at least started (http://amr.abime.net/review_47971) though presumably cancelled before completion. So far as FMV games go, it might be one of the most difficult to port unofficially due to the collision detection between the player and the background elements (meaning you'd need to draw collision zones frame-by-frame), along with the numerous sprites that can be on screen at once. I don't think I'd ever have enough time free to do such a conversion myself!

Wing Nuts looks perfectly doable, could probably have a HAM6 FMV display with hardware sprites for the onscreen gunfire and cursor. No promises though, I'll keep it on my someday/maybe list.

Wow. Well done with the Engine and that runs on a standard CD32, very impressive. So that engine would be good enough to show the Syndicate Intro or the Command and Conquer cut scenes??

@thairacerjp CDXL conversion is a bit painful because you need to come up with a process for splitting to individual frames and merging them back in with a tool. These days I use FFMPEG on Windows to do the split, and ADPRO in Amiga to do the merge into CDXL.

But of course Blue Thunder and the related games made in the engine use FFMPEG in combination with some custom made tools for the custom format I've made.

@Redblade
Greetings fellow kiwi! Yes, basically any video could be converted to the format, but you'd need to live with limitations on frame rate and resolution (unless you didn't care about CD32 compatibility! If you were only interested in Amigas equipped with hard drives you could probably get away with larger and smoother videos)

Just a reminder - Blue Thunder was only a prototype game of course, TimeGal was the full length game that came out of the experiment, and of course Road Avenger should be out in the next few weeks.

Hi earok ! , Yesterday I spent almost my afternoon making experiments with avi4hv and i managed to got it working , i not very please with the result when to compare to the Amazing work of "amigaanimecd" website, they have converted many anime on CD32 with automatic launch, i used this method to do my first try :
http://www.majsta.com/modules.php?na...=article&sid=9
it's the simplest way i think cause the other method from amigaanimecd is about 20 pages ! but it look best, my configuration was 320x216 15fps but
many said that for faster Amigas like the Amiga 1200 (CD32)you can use 320x216 up top 20FPS , i will try FFMPEG and ADPRO like you said, keep the good work !

my test :

Well done mate, congratulations!

I take it that you're running the animation from a hard drive rather than a burnt CD..?
