Jens Schoenfeld releases Catweasel Mk4
Individual Computers Press Release
Looks interesting... perhaps the extra control required for making and writing back CAPS images? |

Perhaps... certainly looks much more like what we need.

VERy interesting and I hope I can buy it this time, damn shame about it not being a Flipper card like the ML3 but then again, not many programs used it in the Amiga I was expecting the appearance of a SID tracker for Amiga but it never happened.

Read the Mk III stuff
Hmm, not knowing much about this catweasels. Am I on the understanding that you connect these to your pc, install the drivers, connect a Amiga or Pc FDD to them and are able to read 880k disks?
Ahh just read the detail on the previous version and I was right, well apart from hooking up an Amiga floppy.. Didn`t want anyone to think I was lazy now Last edited by stainy; 20 July 2004 at 09:22. Reason: More info |

Yes, they basically give you a flexible floppy controller, unlike the hard-wired one in the PC, so you can read disks of many different types. As an example, Toni mentioned support for the Mk4 in WinUAE, so you can boot disks directly into the emulator.
[Edit] And I answered before your edit. |

Yes, that's the idea... never had one myself so don't know how well they work, but have wanted one since mk2 I think?

Yup, I guess so. But bear in mind that:
1) Support is not yet in UAE for the FDC part. 2) The Mk4 version (that is needed for UAE floppy use) does not come out until October. 3) You'll have to ask Toni if writing will be supported. |

I was talking about this one:
http://www.powerc.com/cgi-bin/psearc...id=4&act=gpage I don't want to take the amiga online, it's just for transferring files from the PC, something I can slowly do with a null modem cable. That's why I can't justify 55£. I'm worried about compatibility so I can't just grab an el cheapo PCMCIA card. Take the amount of time you spend to earn 55£, multiply it by 8-10, that's how long you need to work in Turkey! I know you mean well but that hat joke bites. The $10 thing was correct, however. There is an overflowing surplus of 3c589 cards in the world - no-one wants a 16-bit 10M pcmcia card any more (except of course Amiga owners!).. Don't pay through the nose for "Amiga certified" stuff from an Amiga dealer, especially if you can find similar stuff cheaply on the free market! There are usually several 3c589s available in eBay.. 3com Etherlink III PCMCIA is the full name of this pedigree dog. |

Jope is correct. I bought lots of PCMCIA ethernet cards of UK ebay for between £2 and £5 and they are ALL Amiga compatible either using the CNET driver (NE2000 compatible cards) or the 3C589 driver.
I am a bit disapointed that the Amiga can only manage 200kbps but hey it's better than a serial link. |

Didn't you know? That extra 50 ukp (only a mear 500% markup) is the painstaking effort they go to testing each card on the Amiga range. And what is more, you get a great piece of extra hardware which avoids having to install a 2 Kb card reset utility in your startup. Isn't that alone worth £50 I ask you?
Heh. The Amiga world never changes. Fools and their money. |
