FastJPEG is faster than Visage, but can only show JPEG files. Visage is best if you want to view different file formats (jpeg, gif, png etc.)

I always used Viewtek back in the day, I have no idea how that compares speed wise, but it does do a lot of different image formats.

Did you try the new LoView on Aminet?

OK

I tried fastview and viewtek but Visage is lot faster than viewtek and a bit faster than fastview
also I tried Fastjpeg ...it works ok in most cases and is fast like Visage but fails on certain jpg pictures where VIsage not fails
The program LOview it seems works only on gfx cards and doesn't works on AGA
I have used a timer and I can affirm that Visage is the faster

thanks anyways for the suggestions

Re loview, I didn't realise that it was gfx card only sorry...
That's what comes from taking your Amiga hardware for granted!

I have fallen into that trap several times myself Threads like this are always helpful to call back on if you get in a situation where it is more relevant to you at a future time than it might be at the present moment.

Try to use Meynaf viewer:
http://meynaf.free.fr/tmp/v.lzx

This (old) version 1.01 is in some cases fastest than Visage, new version 1.02 is always fastest than Visage.

It also renders better quality HAM8 images. It supports JPEG, GIF, PNG, IFF (including 24 bit), BMP and some other formats. It's command line only.

I tested PPShow and Visage with the same 1024x768 24bit JPEG. PPShow took nearly twice as long to display the image as Visage, which did it in 15 seconds. I used to use PPShow back in the day also, but switched to Visage for everything except showing anims, which PPShow still does well.

yes visage is fast
but the new program linked by don_adan is a bit faster than visage
for ex a big jpg picture I have tested ....Visage did in 8 sec and the new program V did in 6 secs
also this new program center the pics on the screen....but visage shows pics at the left side of the screen

At the moment v doesn`t support as many formats as visage and has some more limits. However, it is faster and could be a alternative if it will be expanded.

The author is still working on it, so it will be expanded, and where possible, optimized for speed (the jpeg codec, for example, has been hand translated from C to assembler).

No, I don't have this version, but I helped meynaf with speed optimalizations for JPEG/PNG/HAM8 parts and I have info from him, how many frames new version is fastest now. I can assemble my own version 1.02, because source are free, but I don't use PhxAss.
