MIDI, MMC and Digital Audio solutions???
Hi there. I was just reading this article about hooking up an external digi recorder to Ataris via MIDI.
http://www.atarimusic.net/component/...ital-recording The external recorders handle all the audio and the ST controls all the automation and stuff via MIDI and MMC. I remember doing a similar thing myself years ago with a 100mhz IBM PC running an ancient cakewalk hooked up to a slaved Tascam 788 digi 8track. I was wondering what options there are for a setup like this for Amiga. I have read that Bars and Pipes is a pretty powerful sequencer and v2.5 pro will act as MMC master. What are the options for Zorro II MIDI cards? Also I was thinking about controlling an Alessis ADAT. Has anyone got experience with any of these things? I'd love to know what you think. Cheers. Bars & Pipes is indeed extremely powerful but has a steep learning curve (and is a bit hard to run on modern Amigas). Personally I gave up soon after I started messing with it because it was overkill.
I don't know what sort of Amiga you have or what you want to do with this, but you could use other applications like Music-X or maybe even Octamed to run this device. As for controlling an ADAT, if it doens't work with MIDI protocols, i don't know about any software that could control it. |

don't you just need a serial port for midi?

Yes, that is true. I don't think there are Zorro II MIDI cards, maybe there are soundcards that also have MIDI, but Serial is what you want for MIDI and it works great with no latency.

A sound card with MIDI is what I was referring to. You need to have something in the computer with midi in and out or you can't connect it to the audio gear.

Saying that, I think I had a serial cable once that had midi sockets on the end.
Anyway. I think a sound card would be good. Which soundcards are good? |

What hooverphonic meant is that you do NOT need a Zorro II card with MIDI, you just buy a serial MIDI interafce for the Amiga. I don't know of ANY soundcards that have MIDI.
Check this list and grab the one you prefer: http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showcat.cgi?CATID=23 |

No problem. Basically they are all the same too, so just go for whatever port configurration you want. the standard seems to be 1 in, 1 thru and 1 to 3 outs (which usually can be switched to thrus too). If you also want some extra sound capabilities, go for the Clarity 16 which has a 16 bit sampler and MIDI. I been wanting one of those for a while to add to my sampler/MIDI device "collection"
