@tom256:
If it is just a direct replacement for 3.0/3.1 it will never be as advanced as 3.9. |

About the only difference to 3.9 is that the latter includes reaction. There isn't much more because the core system of 3.1.4 is based on 3.9 code, just with many many fixes we found on the way.

I guess there is a good chance that reaction will come to 3.1.4 now that Hyperion has the rights to it.

The 3.1.4 project is at this time complete, but we will hopefully be able to publish 3.2 which is being worked on right now. As far as the question "reaction or not" is concerned, there is not yet a definite decision on this. There are both arguments for and against it.

Well there are some good programs out there that uses reaction. I would integrate it.
On the other hand Hyperion wrote to make it available to all plattforms, so the user has the choice either way. But it would be easier if it is included. Just for the lazy ones like me ![]() |

For now I will keep running my heavily expanded 3.9 workbench, runs super fast on my Vampire systems, and no annoying setpatch reboot
![]() I will consider the current 3.x development when the feature set is equal or better then 3.9. |

3.9 has more features in the userland domain: ReAction and "ReActionized" Prefs and a more rich set of tools and utilities. 3.1.4 has a much more developed AmigaOS core: Improved and bugfixed kickstart components, commands (in C), handlers (in L) and libraries (in Libs) and devices (in Devs). And of course, there are a few exceptions in each of these OSes. But the point is, that you are comparing two different OSes that come from a different perspective on how to approach the development. They are way too different to make any fair judgement for, or against one or the other. |

I really don't remember a big difference in speed with my a4000 060 50 mhz 128 meg ram + gfx card (cybervision 64) between os3.1 and os 3.9.
If it's for using on winuae use the one you want, even why not wb3.1 or 3.9 + amikit. If you can, buy the two and play with them, download some tools on aminet for enhancing the experience. I know that some just like the os 3.1 vanillia but sorry, in my eyes, it lacks some features but if it's just for playing some whdload games amiga dos and a little menu is more than enough and the best solution for a vanillia 1200. In fact it just depends of what you are looking for. ps: i must admit that it was fun to look for the best apps to enhance the workbench and try to keep it fast and stable but i don't think that it still some interest to do it, but who knows. Even if os3.9 is slighty slower, it was really faster than win95 or worst win2000 or millenium !! I hope you'll find what you are looking for !!! fun ?? For the fun, the amiga is the best place to go ! |

@Ami
We really don't know yet. ReAction in itself demands a lot of work. Fortunately enough, we have a developer who is doing a tremendous effort in trying to bring up ReAction. So, only time will tell for sure how things end up. It is too soon to determine something about ReAction. |

For all the talk about 3.1.4 being slow: I have a stock Amiga 1200 with 8MB fast RAM added and 3.1.4 runs just fine in high resolution interlaced with 64 colours. Looks very nice compared to "stock" 3.1 with the new icons.
