I bought it for the Workbench disks and kickstarts. If it's there to buy, then that's what I do.

Moreover, is included emulator GPL? If so, there's nothing wrong in selling it (perfectly ok under GPL - in fact, even encouraged). I don't have Amiga Forever myself, so I have no idea if there's actual value in the package (apart from the KS ROMs/WB), but sounds a bit pricey for a front-end. But nothing wrong with that - you can buy or not. |

That's right. Yup, I do know how GPL works and, as I stated, Cloanto's business model is 100% legal. As Macarra also stated "You can buy it or not". I was just trying to expose why I won't.
Of course including WinUAE in a commercial package is not a crime. It's just that sometimes "legal" doesn't mean we are forced to agree, and I don't agree the way they are using their license, wether "mysterious owner" is to blame or not. I honestly think that forcing people who don't have a real Amiga to buy their pack if they just want to do some basic classic Amiga emulation is counterproductive not only for us all, but also to their own interests. It's making potential clients go away, as I see it. Someday perhaps we'll see KS and WB stuff beeing free and open. Then Cloanto should search for a real major selling point to Amiga Forever. That hopeful day the real Amiga bussines could take off. Just my humble view of it all! -- |

I am not paying for the frontend, I paid the money for a copy off All workbenches, and roms from 1.x to 3.1, and Workbench 3.9, for use with Amikit, Classic WB, and AmigaSYS, which I use on my Real amiga, and Amiga Explorer is nice. Now if I could of just downloaded all that for free, "legally" I would of, since I can't it doesn't bother me to spend some small money on it. But, it is just my opinion, since if I added up all the costs I have spent on my Amiga, 29$, isn't much . PS. Over 1k in total I guess, but it does look so nice in it's tower. hehe |

The way I see it, WinUAE is integral to the Amiga Forever package and as such it would, in my opinion, only be fair for some small portion of the sale price to go to Toni.
I don't know if in reality that happens or it doesn't but I do seem to remember Toni mentioning in the past that Cloanto have supplied bits of hardware and things to him for help in working on emulating things. Anyway, Toni could confirm what, if anything, Cloanto do in terms of support to him but *if* Cloanto *do* support him then that for me would make purchasing Amiga Forever a worthwhile gesture. Of course, if you *still* didn't like Cloanto enough to buy AF you could always just cut out the middle man and donate to WinUAE development instead... |

you're saying give money to Cloanto if they supply Toni with incentives
but if you don't like Cloanto give the money straight to him? mmm... why not just donate to his efforts and pretend Cloanto don't exist - if everyone did they wouldnt. oh, and how much have YOU given to Toni? (btw i wouldnt use that Cloanto front-end if it were free. Tbh I borrowed it from a friend, used it for about 5 mins and deleted the whole bloated thing from my HDD - waste of space.) |

@ Falcon Flight - Still making big efforts to increase your forum popularity I see.
Don't worry yourself, I've already donated to WinUAE directly, twice in the last six months if I remember correctly... As to the amounts, well, that's between me and Toni isn't it. Quote:

Come on folks, we all have different opinions about Cloanto and its reason for being loved or hated or whether it is even worth the price etc. Maybe its time to calm down a bit as things seem to be getting a bit heated up at the moment as well as personal, it is after all just another disk following in the line of all the previous ones, got one and you've got just about the lot!

I already sent an email that Cloanto should create some sort of "new suggestion/features" topic for future versions of AF.. I think that would be nice. So everyone could suggest of what they would like or wouldnt like to see in AF in the future
