A600 mouse problem :(
Hi all,
I've got an A600 here that's not working properly. The mouse moves the arrow up and down on the screen fine, but left-to-right is not working. If I move left-to-right very quickly just after booting it will move a bit maybe 5 seconds later, but aside from that the left-to-right plane of mouse movement doesn't work at all. I've checked the port connections, solder points, etc and everything seems fine there. The very same mouse works great on my other (towerised) A600...so the mouse is most certainly NOT the problem. Any ideas? PZ. |

hmmmm this sounds ominous my friend.
from your description I fear that the part of the paula that controlls the mouse is dead or dying rapidly have you noticed any problems with sound on this computer? |

Does joystick port directions work correctly? (btw, Denise handles joystick/mouse directions, Paula handles buttons 2 and 3 only)

Sound and joystick controls are fine, so to a certain point it's ok for games, but forget mouse-controlled games...plus anything in WB has to be done on the other 600 then put the "FDD" CF card back into this one...not at all convenient
Sounds like it's stuffed then Oh, and thanks for the swift replies, even though it's bad news I still appreciate it PZ. Last edited by Fingerlickin_B; 22 February 2007 at 13:47. |

Problem is most likely caused by broken multiplexer chip (common TTL chip in A500, not sure about A600) between ports and Denise if joystick works but mouse doesn't (or vice versa)

Checked A600 schematics: A600 joystick port multiplexer IC is U34 (74LS157, U15 in A500)

Any electronics store will have those 7400-series logic chips, as they're generic parts used in just about all electronics..

U34 is written in the motherboard's silkscreen. It will probably be under the floppy drive, near the joystick ports.
Just verified, it is indeed right next to the joystick ports, no need to remove floppy drive: http://jope.fi/a600.png It looks like this (the angled shot on the left side): Although I must say that if you had to ask this question, better take it to a tv repair shop and ask them to replace that component for you. Yes, I can replace the IC myself very easily, I just needed to know what you guys were talking about...I'm not big on Amiga terms like "joystick port multiplexer" and such Hopefully I can source it locally, but retail stores don't sell a lot of the good stuff here these days. If not, I'll just go with AmigaKit or that other place Thanks everyone I should say PZ. |
