Cannot get keyboard to work in WinUAE

Hey all. I'm having trouble getting WinUAE to recognize my keyboard. I realized I was using an old version (0.8.22) so I upgraded to the the newest version, but then the graphics totally screwed up, and the keyboard still wasn't working, so I went back to the old version. I have Input set to "Compatibility mode" and I have Amiga Mouse Port 0 set to Keyboard Layout B. I can get the mouse to work by setting Mouse Port 0 to PC Mouse, but when I set Mouse Port 0 to Keyboard and Mouse Port 1 to PC Mouse, neither the mouse nor the keyboard will work.

What am I doing wrong? how can I get WinUAE to recognize my keyboard and preferably my mouse at the same time?

Port 0 is for the mouse and port 1 is for the joystick. Only very few games listen for a joystick on port 0, mostly those which support two joysticks.

So if you want to play a game with a keyboard layout instead of a joystick, select keyboard layout b on port 1. Leave port 0 with the mouse.

Does it matter then when you go to the Input area which option (mouse/keyboard etc) you select at the top?

No. The input window is for remapping certain actions to a different key/button (doesn't work for the 'emulated' keyboard joystick layouts though). So it doesn't matter which one is activated for the controls inside WinUAE.
