Kick Off 3 European Challenge ECS/AGA

Just like the KO3 slave I created these way back in March but never got around to creating the install packages. And just like the KO3 slave I thought it would be a good idea to offer them here for some testing. Greetings to lolafg again, I finally did it =)

The slaves are well tested so there shouldn't be any problems but if there are some feel free to report them as that's what this thread is made for.
Supported are the SPS versions and the Rednex cracks.

Edit: Same here, I do not need icons anymore since Irek'72 already made nice icons way back when I created the patch, totally forgot that, sorry Irek!

When I wrote that I need icons I totally forgot that I Irek'72 already made nice icons for this patch. Blame it on my bad memory!

Not much I can do here, game loads files and decrunches them which is why the loading isn't that fast. I already relocated the decruncher to fast ram to speed up the decrunching but that's all I can and will do about that.

Thanks for testing. =)

When does that happen? Can't reproduce here. Which version did you use? SPS 170?

Ok. The slave quits with an error message if it detects an unsupported version so I think yours is the same as SPS 170. But I guess I'll know tomorrow.

Tested with SPS 170 and no more problems , perhaps my disks are bad as i had a lot of bad checksum with disk 2 that i didn't have with SPS 170.

Thank you for this install

If you have checksum errors on disk 2, your disk is definitely broken. Which also explains the crash, most probably the decruncher failed as it couldn't decrunch the corrupted data.
Thanks for testing as usual =)

Isn't it RNC Propack on the Kick Off games? Propack does return error codes if it doesn't depack properly, might be worth patching that to check, save you a lot of debugging work if its simply dodgy images, save you chasing bugs that don't exist.

Yes the files are packed with RNC ProPack, however, the decruncher used in KO3 doesn't really return error codes. The decruncher only checks the header for the "RNC" ID (and will return that the file is not packed if the ID is not found which won't help because not all files the games loads are packed), if that is found it will decrunch and if it has to deal with corrupted data, it'll crash for obvious reasons (corrupts memory). There's nothing I can and will do about that.

I could have sworn Rob Northen had an error handling version of Propack.... i'll have to look or maybe my memory is getting hazy!

Not the decruncher used in KO3 as said. It only checks if the file has been crunched with ProPack, not more. I saw other RNC decrunchers which do return more error codes though, the KO 3 one doesn't.

Cheap bastards!

Thing is, if they used Propack properly, they could have dropped a disk from most of their later releases.

Galahad, one question, related to First Samurai, how the copy protection operates on this one ? It seems to use a strange copylock. but it seems that it's not RNC PDOS.

Any clue ?

Ok, now i've looked at it.

Its RNC Copylock, and its not MFM or PDOS, its just a header checksum error or something similar on the rest of the tracks, the same type as used on all the Graftgold games.

Action Replay for instance completely ignores the error and reads the tracks in perfectly.

Fairly sure John Twiddy used the same system on his games as well (Aladdin etc)
