Did they really labeled it "francis, nico"?!?

I'll take a look for you...

EDIT: Sorry could only found version 4.0
EDIT2: If you found it, can you, please, upload it to the Zone? Thanks

Strange... PowerPacker 5.0b seems to have less features than version 4.2. There are no options for screenmode or fonts and there is no AREXX menu. If you try to force screenmode to laced (with ModePro), it only uses half the screen. Menu options look greyed out but they're not. The only thing new in 5.0 that I see are the display of largest blocks of chip and fast RAM (and sizes are not in boxes anymore).

Does anybody know if 5.0 actually has any improvements over 4.2?

Well... can anyone confirm this version isn't a hacked up version? I never heard of a PP5.x but then again... I could be wrong here

Yes, that's what I was thinking. It looks like an older version hacked to look newer. The About box has completely different address and company names but are about the same length (maybe binary edited). The 5.0 executable seems to have been compressed with something other than PowerPacker (will not compress/decompress in PowerPacker) and does not show a version string (with WB "version" or other version utilities).

Powerpacker is compressed with StoneCracker 4 and if u unpack and use azap to scan for powerpacker, there is a (Private) in there
I do remember hearing about powerpacker 5, when u scan with xfdlist after compressing a executable filetype, it says powerpacker 4, filesize of powerpacker 5 is 70717 bytes unpacked.

I also have the PowerPacker Pro 4.03 version aswell which i can either upload to the zone, or my webspace.

use xfdmaster suite, xfdmaster.library and xfdlist to list compressed files

available on aminet under util/pack

ftp://de.aminet.net/pub/aminet/util/pack/xfdmaster.lha
or

Question Latest Powerpacker Version?

So which is the latest/best Version of Powerpacker?
And what about the 5.0b version? Why does it exist and why is Nico Francois the author?

If you read the thread closely, it appears that PowerPacker 4.0a was the last legitimate release. The manual for it is included as a .doc file on the disk itself.

PowerPacker V5.0b legitimately doesn't exist. As Crashdisk has painstakingly detailed in post #13 above, all available versions of PowerPacker newer than V4.0a are *fakes* that were released to the Amiga cracking scene back in the day.

Powerpacker 5.. does exist.. i remember it being advertised in one of the amiga magazines.. simple reason i remember i was actually thinking of buying it.. it was on sale for £15 at the time.
before i found imploder 4, stoncecracker or stc coverdisc, and crunchmania..
powerpacker 4.2 was for Wb2.04 and didnt work on wb1.3
powerpacker 4.3 was sold by UGA software..

Powerpacker 5 which is on the ftp.. looks like a hacked version of 4.3. with just the numbers replaced.
why did my post post twice??
