So i do assume OS4 at this current time can boot on a Mac, but not much more...
So, if the project is halted i think i would need to forget about buying a Mac with OS4.

What a pity... Really.

Pitiable also. Boot a shitty OS and use a handful of apps. Living in 1993 is a pity too

Yah, no new Apple products using PPC, what is an error. What makes an Intel Mac different from a Sony Vaio? Apple has to be back to the PPC line using a Series 6 processor.

...If not Apple could end up in the way NEC ended with it's 98 line of computers... Just being a PC manufacturer.

Bootcamp clearly shows the way to go...
Always wondered why there isn't a 'OS X for PC'. Guess the times for proprietary hardware/OS combos are over.

INDEED! The age of Open Source will soon be upon us... Hardware as well as software.
Now... if those Linux-developers would just stop making all of their distro's so god-damn hard to install/use and do some deal to make a freeware only partially Open Source OS so the driver-manufacturers could finally come on-board, as well as FULL WINDOWS-COMPATIBILITY then we would be all set...

I've never understood that, why no FULL windows-compatibility? It's like trying to invent a better VHS, but only making it compatible with Betamax... Idiocy.

Besides the fact that this is probably not the goal of Linux at all, it would also make no sense You want a free Windows, not Linux Predabot

At one time, it was rumoured that Apple would release such a thing. Eventually it was reported that, in fact, the rumours were true and the project even had a name - "Marklar" (IIRC).

Of course, it turned out that the project was really the porting of OS X to x86 in preparation for the Intel-based Macintoshes.

Edit: See the section headed Apple Intel Transition on this page:

Theres hacks to run OS X on non apple X86 hardware so you can build your own Hackintosh but legaly its dodgey.

Its strange they wont sell it, its the same hardware

Tried Ubuntu recently?

And as for Windoze comptibility, the only reason we are all stuck with this crap OS is that the bean counters liked it initially. I for one would be overjoyed never to have to use a MS product again.
The only reason people stick with MS stuff is (for example) that it is easier than using Open Office or similar and having to convert files for Windoze Word users who can`t convert files from other formats properly.

Currently playing with Linux music software but always have at least one machine on the current release of Ubuntu.
If everyone switched to an open source OS NOW, MS would have to take notice.
But of course that is never going to happen.

I've run MacOS-X on my µA1.

I've read posts on Amigaworld where members of Hyperion have basically said there's no chance of AmigaOS4.x on Mac hardware.

MorphOS is looking more possible however...

OK then, now here's OS4Emu, an OS4 API emulator for MorphOS:

Amiga is much more than just games.

Everytime I read these posts from people who still lives in the "A500/0.5MB extramem/extra floppy"-days I feel disgusted.

What if someone had the source for Workbench and ported it to a new CPU and hardware more modern than classic Amiga? Wake up, it is true and it is for sale now. So it is not x86, which would have been nice, but it is still totally awesome because Workbench -as most Amiga users knows- is really, really great. So it costs quite a lot, it is the harsh reality.

AmigaOS4.x becomes what you want it to become. If all you want to do is waste time on Ocean movie ports from 1993, go ahead skip next-gen Amiga.

If you fail to see that, I can fully understand why someone would be active and registered on an Atari ST forum.

THAT.Is.AWESOME! It's brilliant! WHY have no-one thought of this sooner?? It's such a simple, good idea!

Man... those guys need more funding, and they need it like now. It takes everything that's cool with CURRENT Win NT (directX compat' and everything) and scales it down, so it's no longer a resource hog, and you can even increase capabilities with those special libraries they mention. Kick ass.

That IS a bit odd. Now that they're using the same ram, HD and CPU's, why not increase their user-base and such? Selling OSX to people who don't own an official MaC would help in increasing the user-base.

No, I haven't tried Ubuntu recently, because I have no interest in running a server... I mostly play games and work with graphics on my comp, and here the NT environment is still quite nice.

I've read a bit about Ubuntu, and it seems a lot easier to install and use than the Red Hat that I tried at the turn of the millennium ( which made me bang my head against my keyboard) but it doesn't convince me yet. We'll see. Maybe once they start converting the file-handler to be a bit more graphical.

If I was to go Open Source, it would be ReactOS. Support for drivers and commercial programs that I ( and many others) already use, as well as a budding DirectX-compatibility. I don't have anything against Open Source, I just don't think this Unix-thingamajig is something that suits every end-user. It certainly doesn't suit me.

I wonder why they don't want to port it to MaC...? I guess AROS should be just as possible as MorphOs tho, right?

Sadly there is no real next gen Amiga and there probably never will be The support for OS4 has dried up, the userbase doesn't even show up on a pie chart alongside Mac OS-X and Windows platforms with it being so small/specialist. Even Linux is more popular and supports more (and free!)... Look at the state of Amiga.Inc - they couldn't give a toss apart from giving us all a bad taste in the mouth.

not trying to be negative, I would love new Amiga hardware/OS - and believe me I'd rather use WB than Windoze but Windows is soooo cheap and useable along with the hardware and it works with everything...

I'd rather remember Amiga as it was, not something being dragged through a hedge slowly...
