Mitsumi D359M3D mod help please

Hello all...

Can anyone post better images and instructions for modding this drive for use on Amiga? I've seen a german version with a poor quality picture but cannot make sense of the tracks to cut or re-solder etc. Looks like a simple enough mod and I want to give this a go. My A500 drive is getting a little poor with reading despite and already cleaned heads...

Thank you in advance

Can you translate instructions? Excuse my ignorance but I can't tell what is actually happening in the diagram.

Thank you ... finally got the damn thing open. You literally have to disassemble the entire floppy drive! Hope I can get this working

Just some pics of it open. Hopefully be able to provide higher resolution pics once I've done this mod!

Can't seem to add via phone

Hmmm found this for converting drives for compatibility with MSX. Same drive though different soldering and in the comments it says it will be compatible with Amiga?
https://www.msxinfo.net/2014/03/03/m...sx-compatible/

Only issue is... I can't find the "brown wire" it speaks of!

i've got the same drive laying around, well a couple of them. let us know how it turns out. i have started the process and cut both traces. now i just need to find some really small jumper wire as the hookup wire I have is way too big. hopefully my iron tip is small enough.
Thanks for the translation, it was helpful. I assume this is for DF0:?

he says ...

"On my drive I used a quick & dirty fix, to put a solderjumper on pin 10-12"

so no brown wire needed

Yes but ... both mods appear different! One goes directly to chip and the other does not?...

Also:
1) pin 2 is not connected to anything in the MSX mod?
2) DEN2 not bridged in 1st mod.

Want to try and succeed first time as this was a pain to open! Lol

i think the best solution is to hook up wires, not connect them, and leave them dangling so when you reassemble you can try the various options, i know those mitsumis are nasty pieces of work

If I follow guide 2 which is exactly the same board as mine. I'll be ok? Pin 2 is not connected to anything on this one unlike the 1st mod?

Look at the two pictures of the drives boards. The MSX mod is a different board. Even though they are the same drive they are really different boards and different layouts. I would go with whatever looks like your board. For me it was the one posted in this thread in german(?).

Yes. I think so... except I want to be sure I can use this on xcopy for example. I prefer this for formatting disks

I have three of these drives laying around so I wasn't too concerned about borking it. They all came out of crappy Dell Pentium 4 towers which were junk that I recycle for customers. Can't hardly give this stuff away.

But, yeah if I could mod it successfully and it will work with Sanity Arte demo, then it should be good to go for most anything else, from what I understand about that demo needing Ready signal.

What gauge jumper wires are you using?

I'm going to use Kynar wire which I used for xbox 360 mod.

It's AWG30 I believe this is good. The great thing about it is the flexibility of the cable! hope it's enough for the current this drive requires!

Ok Cool. Yeah I hope so, as the normal hookup wires are too heavy to solder to the smd chip leg...

Ok... wired up like the MSX. It will boot, spins the disk and then stop. Just as though no valid disk in drive... any ideas?

Does your drives board look like the one in the MSX tutorial linked above or does it look like the one in the image that cpiac64 posted?

I am going to attempt to solder my jumpers this weekend. I didn't have small enough wire and dang radio shack had nil.

My drive looks exactly the same as MSX post I put a link to. I think there's a simple error. might need to cut trace on pin 12 but cannot see this on the MSX picture as being done and instead he just solder-jumpered pins 10&12 together? Also pin 2 is not connected to anything other than DEN2 which is also solder-jumpered.
Here's a picture. BTW the yellow wire is the Kynar wire.
