I'm having speed problems with "Hostages"

I have a wierd problem which isn't related to the game itself but rather my configs and/or software.

When I run the game "Hostages" on the most basic of Amiga 500 configs on my WinUAE it loads perfectly fine and acts as it is supposed to. But once I enter the game and is underway to position my snipers by running the "gauntlet", I get killed the instant I jump out of the cover, eventhough I'm not in any of the spotlights. I think the error is the too high CPU-speed that accelerates the game-time and hence the the instant-kill scenario. However, I used to be able to run hostages without that problem in WinUAE before. (earlier WinUAE version if that is relevant)

So eventhough I'm using the most slow of configurations I still cant get it to work properly. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello Raid27,

Just a few suggestions (although they may not fix your problem). You cold try the following:

... Under the Hardware --> Chipset area, try ticking "Cycle exact CPU and Blitter".

... If that doesn't work try unticking the above, then going to the CPU area, select "Adjustable between CPU and Chipset" and play with different levels to see if that makes a difference.

I'm running the game through Lemonade and haven't had any luck so far - the hero still gets shot, even though immediate blitter is unticked. Care to post a config file I can use as reference for my own custom Lemonade config files? Would be much appreciated.

And yes, I did read the other threads about this subject. Just didn't work for me - something must be off in my config.

Nope doesn't work. As I mentioned it only works for me if I choose the "Fastest Possible, but maintain chipset timing" setting. Meh, its working so I shouldn't complain

Well, maybe I should give Game Base a try. But for the meanwhile I have to use Lemonade as that's what people are used to on my Mame arcade which also runs Lemonade. And I've exhausted all the combinations I can think of in WinUAE trying to get Hostages to work. Still no luck, and I would appreciate if somebody would post a working WinUAE configuration file for me to learn from as this is the first game I can't get running. Thanks.

Yes, that would be a worthless waste of energy. For me the goal is to work more efficient and innovative. Not to compete, compare or snort malicious pleasure.

Indeed with at least two FREE choices it can only lead users finding which they find better suited to their individual gaming preferences

If new features & updates are going to be developed then its not about competition at all, but about trying to supply the AMIGA community with the features they ask for

Anyway Kim I only hinted at the differences , which is NOT to say your more HANDS ON featured engine , which I acknoledge arived 1st is a lesser product at all

However within this thread the original requester was struggling to solve his query and making him aware of a SIMPLER alternative use choice is what were here for.

I think my fellow mod bippym was right to make a statement about not letting this thread disolve into OFF TOPIC areas , as equally I hope each system spurs the OTHER into constantly solving problems.

As we both know they are but alternative front ends for the real program WinUAE
