Adding a slimline cdrom driver to A600

Hi, want to add a slimline cdrom driver to my A600. Ive seen it done before where the left hand side as a slot cut out and the cdrom placed inside.

How is the cdrom attached? Can I simply use a 2.5" floppy connector with 2 connectors and use master/slave settings with my hard drive?

Or is their a lot more modification.

Will I need something like this?

What connectors do notebook cdrom drives usually have?

Also any easy ways to power it? Will a large brick psu be capable?

Thanks.

PS. Also thinking about getting a clockport expansion. Any cheapish cards that will use this well on a stock 68000...except clocks :P?

If it's a very old drive, it might have the 44pin connector. I have one of these in my possession.

If it's relatively modern, it will have the JAE connector.

Master/slave works here too, the CD-ROM is usually set as slave.

It won't take up that much juice, but I suggest modifying an ATX power supply for Amiga use.

Ok so I will need to buy:

1x cdrom drive (Bought: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN:IT&ih=013)
1x 3way 44pin cable

and possibly

1x JAE > 44pin adapter

How are they powered? Standard molex?

Also what dirvers are used?

I have idefix97 will that work ok with it?

I saw someone on A.org with one so I can ask them.

They're standard IDE devices, so you drive it with idefix like a normal CD-ROM.

That mechanism looks so old that it might actually have a 44pin interface.

Standard molex, unless the power comes from the 44pin cable. I haven't seen jae -> 44pin adapters, only 40pin. Hope you find a suitable one.

I heard that the ide ports on A600/A1200 was not designed for 2 devices and they can hog up the line and a 4way buffer needs to be used.

Also I heard that laptop cdroms do not usually have the master/slave settings.

Thanks Jope
