gotek & Long ADF Filenames
Hi.
Anyone with a gotek drive using the adf tosec set will come across a problem. gotek won't display those long named adf Files completely. I think it stops after 15 characters or thereabouts which makes it hard to know which number disk your selecting on games with long filenames. What are people doing to fix this problem. I don't want to rename every adf file as there are thousands of adf in the tosec set. And I want tokeep the tosec set named as it should be originally. ?? |

There isn't really a fix for this really. I just assume that the one listed first is disk 1, the next disk 2 and so on and it seems to work okay.
The only real way to fix it would be a firmware update that allows the filenames to scroll horizontally across the screen when highlighted. Not much chance of that happening anytime soon though by the looks of things. |

So it seems everyone is in the same boat then using a tosec set.

It really is a common issue, and the painful solution is renaming (if you're not ok with almost-blindfolded disk changes that is, which really isn't a big issue anyway)

Disk changes are impossible. Unless you have a list of the filenames separately on your pc. Renaming the files will take years. Unless someone had created a user friendly naming adf file structure for gotek. But I don't think it exists

I've been manually renaming the images I want to use, but it sucks.
I wish the author would release the code so we could improve it. |

Like I said, when I have a multi disk game it usually shows up backwards in the adf loader. So, I pick the last one in the list as disk1 etc. Even If I dont see the actual disk number, it's usually sorted either normally or backwards. So, not a real trouble, just a bit of experimentation. If you insist on renaming, you should at least try a batch tool, I love
this one here for windows: http://www.mediachance.com/free/renamer.htm It will surely come handy for such a task |

Hmm I might look into it.
An example of difficult to select because of long file names is secret of monkey Island. That had about a page and a half of different versions all looking the same. Lol Now with renaming. I wonder what is the best method to rename and keep the Most vital information is |

Could we possibly as a community Set up a renaming system to rename an entire tosec set.
Maybe each member selects a letter and goes from there. We need a method though to include all vital information with the limited amount of characters allowed by gotek Possibly create a list on dropbox or Google drive with a list of the latest whole adf tosec set, that is accessible to all members. Then when edited just add the revised named adf beside the original named adf on the excel sheet. Hands up if gotekkers are interested? |

I did some recursive multi renaming. Just remove all special characters, spaces, etc.

I am thinking about renaming every game to its maximum amount of letters in filenames over a long period of time. Eventually having every game renamed, and basically 1 non trainer version of every game and 1 Trainer version of every game.
Now for example let's look at Turrican. Here are the ADF's Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts).adf Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts)[cr PNA][h ECI][t +4 PNA](Disk 1 of 2).adf Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts)[cr PNA][h ECI][t +4 PNA](Disk 2 of 2).adf Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts)[cr PNA][m ACU][t +4 PNA](Disk 1 of 2).adf Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts)[cr PNA][m ACU][t +4 PNA](Disk 2 of 2).adf Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts)[cr PNA][t +4 PNA](Disk 1 of 2).adf Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts)[cr PNA][t +4 PNA](Disk 2 of 2).adf Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts)[cr TRSi][t +1 TRSi].adf Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts)[cr TRSi][t +1 TRSi][a].adf Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts)[cr TRSi][t +4 ACU].adf Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts)[cr VF][t +9 Supplex](Disk 1 of 2).adf Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts)[cr VF][t +9 Supplex](Disk 2 of 2).adf Turrican (1990)(Rainbow Arts)[f AGA][h][HD].adf Should I consider only these two versions of Turrican? One normal and one with the most + on the trainer? AS well as including an AGA version of the game if it exists. Last edited by ransom1122; 12 July 2016 at 10:21. |

I have started the long journey of renaming every Amiga Adf in the ADF Tosec set for the Gotek drive. I have already renamed all #,A,B,C Letters games, and now up to Letter "D"
I am renaming each file manually one by one with copy paste etc etc. Hopefully in a few months I will have the entire ADF Catalogue renamed and uploaded here for all to share. |
