I think it must have been Marble Madness. I have read about the game in a computer magazine, but seeing it in person was unbelievable back then.
there was an Amiga 1000 in a local department store, and the dude there demonstrated MM to some people.
After that he started "say", typed in a few words and then everybody felt like having seen and heard the future after tha Amiga started to speak these words...

I owned an ATARI 800XL at the time. Most of my friends had C64s. I was proud of being an ATARI guy, at the age of 10. Then one of my friends came to school and started bragging about his new computer that looked like real video on TV. We went over, he popped Shadow of the Beast II in and we watched the intro.

Half of us had A500s that summer.

Rogue for me.. and unfortunately it never showed off how much better the Amiga was than my Atari ST (or my Atari 800 honestly)...

Was at a friends house (Kreator from Decay).
David would always show me things, nothing i remember now, except he had perfect pitch and would often ask me for a song and he'd produce it in his Tracker software (I do recall telling him a song: The Current Affair tune LOL, then he showed me Stunt Car Racer.

I went out, got one of those "for a few weeks" job at a printing press and got paid enough to buy an Amiga.

Now this is a tricky one. I first came to know about the Amiga via the magazines around 1987. I first saw static screens of games that seems impossible to be true. Later I started to see those same colourful screenshots on the back of the Spectrum cassette inlays. Not much later, still in the late 80's, there was a television show here in Portugal that reviewed games (it was a section of a larger program called "Ponto por Ponto") and I saw some moving images and heard some sounds of games like Speedball and Street Fighter.

The first time I saw an actual Amiga, it was in 1988, an A500 in my programming school (where the CGA PCs reigned supreme) and a teacher of mine had brought his A500 and was playing some shoot'em-up that I honestly can't recall what it was. I have been chasing that shoot'em-up ever since and chances are I already have it and don't even know it, 'cos I really don't know what that game was (I think it was Hybris, but I'm not sure). All I know is that its graphics and sound seemed to be out of this world! Like too good to actually be true! I was absolutely starstruck (bare in mind that I was merely 11 years old and impressionable as f**k since I only had Spectrum and CGA [with some limited EGA] experience).

After that time, believe it or not, the next time I saw an Amiga game live was on the verge of 1990 when I finally booted Rick Dangerous for the first time on my very own yet unexpanded Commodore Amiga 500. I was so green on the Amiga side of things that I didn't know that we needed a joystick to play the game (both the Spectrum and the PC usually offered the chance to play the games via keyboard), so I had to connect my trusty Cheetah 125 (the last joystick I bought for my 128k) to my Amiga, this time using the black lead instead of the grey one. The graphics, sounds and fluidity of Rick Dangerous blew me away. I was hooked to the Amiga for life...

I think mine were probably these 3 games at a friend's house. She was lucky enough that her father bought the family an A500 in the late 80s:

... Double Dragon
... Rockford
... Thundercats

I had a C64 at the time and was blown away with Double Dragon

For me it was "Defender of the crown". Played that with a friend's computer and... two days later bought my own Amiga 500

Rogue on an Amiga 1000. This was very unfortunate for me since it didn't entice me to consider switching from my Atari ST.. in retrospect - that sucks .

Well since the previous posts were 16 years into this thread...can't let a cool thread die.

My first in-person (not box art) exposure to the Amiga was with Dragon's Lair. Previously I had only used 8-bit machines, severnal PCs (mostly CGA and Tandy), and the Apple IIgs. I knew what next-gen colors and resolution looked like but the difference between a run-of-the-mill IIgs game and that full screen animation of Dragon's Lair was so massive. It permanently burned into my mind this image of the Amiga as light-years ahead of everything else. It helped that I was a Commodore baby already (VIC-20 then C64). That easily cemented my Commodore fanboy status.
