Enable state recording?

On the "Miscellaneous" tab, there's an option "Enable state recording". Where and how does it record the state?

I'm using WinUAE 1.6.1.

Related: I'm looking for a convenient way to quick-load save states, for crashy or challenging games. Ideally multiple save states in case I quick-save right before falling onto spikes. Is there a way to do this with WinUAE?

State recording takes statefile snapshots to memory, END + numpad / (default mapping) restores previous statefiles one by one.

END + numpad number = quick restore
END + numpad number + SHIFT or CTRL = quick save
