Try Rabbit Jump (bat & ball), Red Ace (platform), Walz (bat & ball), Ascot (Mr. Robot clone), Crash 2000 (bat & ball), Kubysimus (puzzle), Starball (pinball).

True, generated sound killed atmosphere of most games but some games were released only for ST.

Jitterbug. I really loved that game for the Atari ST. Used to spend hours just playing with the level designer too.

LOL
I still use ST emulation for a few games. If I dont have my 1200 at hand I often play the ST versions of games under emu simply because they run a little better on my GP2x. Paradroid 90 is a little more forgiving under ST emulation, it can be frustratingly hard on miggy - so much so I still have a joystick with teeth marks in it. On ST I tend to be able to use cover a little easier in shoot outs and enemy droids who rely on visual detection dont see me all the time. I often wondered which machine it was origionaly written for as the vertical only scrolling is very ST. PZ |

I'm the project leader and one of the two coders of PicrossST. I'm also a lame coder on the amiga. ST conversions are quite fashionable those days : Karateka, Oids, Metro Cross, Arctic Moves, Back to The Golden Age, Joust, International Karate, Solomon's Key, Where Time Stood Still, Starquake (well done Galahad by the way). Since it's a GFA game and since I still have the source code... Is someone interested in making an Amiga version ? Last edited by Marskilla; 24 November 2018 at 16:40. |

One thing KILLS the ST for me stone dead:
It's not the software It's not the graphics It's the DAMNED sound chip. I just cannot stand that awful Yamaha AY noise, especially in a 16-bit machine. A 16-BIT MACHINE!! WHAT were they THINKING??? |

The sound is mono hence the problem. Even the CPC is stereo !

The sound is beepy, and not even a good beepy. Even the so-called percussion effects are squishy. Ugh. Even the sampled sound is no consolation, the AY chip is simply not designed for it, but Paula has beautiful clear audio, at least by comparison.

As for you having the source for Picross on the ST, I would suggest making a new thread which will capture the attention of other coders that specialise in GFA Basic type programming. Would be good to get another game sorted, and this one could probably be done in double quick time |

My 2nd favorite game of all time is available only on the ST - SunDog: Frozen Legacy
Single and only reason why I have a MiST hooked up on my desk. As far as sound, try Oxygen by Jarre and Foreign Afair by Mike Oldfield samples on the ST. I remember sitting as a kid and listing to these two over and over, in awe that a computer can sound this good. Of course at the time I didn't have any access to the Amiga... |

Which one? Even the Atari 8-Bit can portray that cartoon just as well as the ST! |

You could try 'Sinbad and the Throne of the Falcon'! Apparently any version is far better than the Amiga one.
