Harlequin - Having Trouble With Saves

Afternoon all,

I'm hoping someone can explain what I'm doing wrong here.

I've got Harlequin installed on my Amiga hard drive, using the WHDLoad install. I can save a game. When I try to load that save it tells me that the load is complete and takes me back to the game. However, the Harlequin character is nowhere to be seen, and then the game locks-up (but music continues to play).

I've got the latest 1.2 version of the game installed, which has got me further than 1.1, which kept telling me no save disk was present.

Have others had any problems?

I will take a look. What is your system specs and what version of WHDLoad are you using?

32 megs fast ram
OS3.9

My WHDLoad version is 16.9 (the one available for download on the main page of http://www.whdload.de/)

I have tested both version on 1200 +4 fast, and 1230 +4 fast and was able to load the save and load the game without any problems. For my testing I went as far as the Chimerica level before saving. I then exited the game and loaded the save and played the level for a bit.

What level were you on when you saved your game?

Any chance I can get the saved game files from you (there are 4 files for each save).

I started the game from scratch, and saved as soon as Harlequin appeared.

PM me your email address, and I'll dig out the save files.

Thanks for your help with this - really appreciated!

Maybe it's caused by wrong Maxtransfer settings. It reminds me of the problem fc.studio had with my Player Manager 2 install, check here for more info. Try to copy all data to RAM and check if that solves the problem, if so, your MaxTransfer settings are wrong.

Worth a try, I suppose.

It's just a bog standard hard drive taken from an Xbox. Would the Amiga not be set up to work at the correct max transfer rate as a default?

No, you need to use HDTOOLBOX to set it, the default setting isn't always the correct setting.

StingRay / Galahad - looks like you've both hit the nail on the head. Copied the folder to RAM and tried to save/load a game there - all worked perfectly.

Changed the Max Transfer to 0x1fe00 on each partition, tried the HD version and it works flawlessly.

I really appreciate the help guys. I never would have figured this one out without the pointers.

Time to begin the Harlequinade!

Thanks StingRay/Galahad,

I wouldn't have thought of the Maxtransfer rate.
