And theres me thinking it was used non-exclusively for serious psycological disorders resultant of manic episodes.

There was some interesting studdies done by Patworth hospital (during WW2) and the US miliitary during the Koeran war, although not all the facts would be known, thier reseach suggests that Litium intake over prelonged periods promotes depression and lower response times (this i rmember seeing on TV documentary )

now all we need to know is (a) how did robo know about the bipoolar explcit condition, and (b) whom do with think lithium should be prescribed to...

Don't forget PatchControl to keep all those patches under control.

StrigReq is a useful patch to get a file requester for some old progs or even WB execute prompt (obviously a lot of other things fix this inconvenience in WB).

What about debugging tools like CyberGuard, SegTracker, Sashimi.
Help you find things you never new and why they misbehave.

WBStartup++ is not a hack as such, but helps keep the WBStratup folder tidy and select tools you need to run on startup or disable temporary.

AsyncWB maked WB multithreaded.

FullPalette - was it mentioned ? Essential for pallet tuning.

CMQ - the speedup patch for mem copy routines

MouseMeter - measure your travelling distances

Beside PatchControl is SaferPatches. Debug tools are always nice to have but not all are hacks IMHO.

I use MagicMenu, and one that puts icons on the title bar of directory windows allowing you to "show all files" or view names rather than icons, but i can't remember what it's called.

Also Walking Man is quite funny! But absolutely no use, of course.

The new layers.library and MCPs solid window move/scale patch.
Superfast with 20 or more overlapping windows on RTG.
With the original Commo lib it was crawling even in WinUAE.
MCP itself... well you can hate it or love it but there is not much in between imho.

And I couldn't live without Freewheel and MagicMenu anymore.

AfA OS(only in emu) just for a more modern look. It has some flaws when used with Scalos but I like it much more than the Birdie/VP combo on my real 1200.
It's a real bummer that it needs at least a 16bit screen to work and a fast CPU, of course.

My favourite patches/hacky programs:

GigaMem 3.12 - Virtual memory on Amiga. Requires 68040 or better and an MMU
MCP 1.48 - The Master of patches
TLSFMem 1.6 - A better memory allocator for AmigaOS. Makes your system faster.
MagicMenu 2.35 - Nothing beats having your workbench menus anywhere. Transparency is also cool.
Oxyron patcher 3.14 - Patches some FPU instructions and speeds them up. Requires 68040 or better with an FPU.
DynamiCache 1.03 - Configurable drive cache for speedups.

Note: SaferPatches garbles some MovieShop gadgets. So I dont use it.

Strange that SaferPatches effects on GUI stuff. Do you get the same problems with equivalent PatchControl? However, I would recommend to track down the causer. You might write a bugreport to THOR. He is willing to fix problems.

I have since changed my opinion and given up on MCP. Too buggy. MultiCX has taken its place and my machine's stability increased a lot.
