A600HD fail at boot

Hi,
I've an amiga 600hd (40mb hard disk, 2 mb ram, 37.350) that worked until yesterday.
Today, when I've booted it, it gave me this error:

iprefs 37.8 (31.5.91)
program failed
wait for disk activity..
suspend - reboot

It's possible to fix without reinstalling workbench?
Or is it a sign that the hard disk is failing?

You didn't do anything regarding the config?
Almost anything could have failed. Maybe the file got corrupted. Did you shut off your Amiga while the hard disk was being accessed?

You can replace the iPrefs command and see what happens. But this is a weird error. I used to have it when having bad memory and certain patches loaded.

You have some serious issues there, CON: is the console device, it cannot be giving an error.
Try a fresh install, but this sounds really weird.

You still need to know what caused this weird failure. I wouldn't trust that hard drive anymore.

If you formatted the partitions using disk cache that will happen again: directory cache is only for floppy disks.
