Yes, this is possible but needs a lots of time and good motivation. Perhaps much easiest to do is add support for AGA graphics to ECS version.

ECS has ProTracker modules packed with ProPack while AGA has several song files and each uses instruments from one set which are in a single file (totally different story). You should search for a thread about this because it was already discussed.

Maybe we could simply start playing the tactical music using a small shell modplayer when game starts loading tactical? As far as I remember, the game used some kind of dos script when changing between game modes.
When tactical ends, we could kill the modplayer using a suitable command. I wonder if the game can play sound effects at the same time with mod player playing the mod though. Hopefully the mod player should not lock paula. Last edited by ancalimon; 21 November 2011 at 16:51. |

Shame the Amiga version(-s) seem to miss some cool parts of the original PC version,
like Night-time missions. And still, there are all the specific weapons present for those missions in Amiga versions: Electro-flares etc. I think that's strange and gives an impression that the Amiga version was made in a haste.. as always.. I have been playing Ufo Aga WHDload version now and then for a few years now; and have been waiting eagerly for the first night-time mission to occur.. but in vain. I happened to read some old reviews of the game, and found out that Amiga version is missing some things. However I must admit that I'm pleased with the Amiga version(-s) of the game overall, and they have good-looking graphics (except for trhe OCs version)and seem pretty stable. So, maybe it would be possible to fit some stuff from the original PC version (those night-time missions etc) somehow to the Amiga Aga (CD32) version..?!? |

Many developers considered Amiga as a Console unexpandable, so they works with 512k Chip RAM for Amiga 500 and 2 MB Chip RAM for Amiga 1200.
UFO AGA exploited 2 MB chip RAM and any DOS game feature require 2 or 4 MB Fast RAM. Some games never ported to Amiga because during developing was necessary use Fast RAM, but stock Amiga didn't have it, so many games was cancelled. One of this game was Frontlines for Amiga 1200 that required 4 MB fast RAM to be ported. |

Amiga UFO version was ported by Scott Johnson. He mades Hired Guns and Colonization for the Amiga so he sure knew how to exploit the system the better .
If the game is too slow on standard Amigas it is just because it needs expanded machines. This is quite a performance thinking that this j'kind of game is even bootable on an 1MB OCS Amiga |

If you have a very fast Amiga, you can play both UFO/X-COM games using OpenXcom these days. No missing features then.
The original ports are good for the stock Amigas they were intended for. It's a shame that publishers forced PC users to upgrade their hardware with every new game that came out, while at the same time thinking that Amiga users would never ever upgrade their hardware - resulting in such gelded ports. |
