Wanted: XBOX Outer Casing
Hey all, ok i know this isnt an amiga or even retro request but i am looking for the casing (including metal shielding) from an original xbox.
I have a motherboard with all the trimmings (hdd, power, ports, dvd) but i dont have a case to put it all in. Any colour from original black/crystal/green to any of the "ghost" cases would be suitable. Even a non-working xbox that i can strip would be great. Thanks Mike |

why not build a cool xbox mod, by putting the xbox motherboard into something cool like an NES
or a laptop (well this is an xbox360 ) or into a well known star wars spaceship |

I prefer this XBOX Millennium Falcon.
I wonder if it's possible to cram an XBOX into a euro SNES or Super Famicom, that would be rather sexy. |

If you can do it with a NES it shouldn't be a problem to do it with a SNES
However this would be also awesome for a X-Box : |

Hey guys, as much as i'd love to build a custom case for the XBOX i am not that good. Also this project is not mine. My wife has managed to gather the bits and would like to try her hand at building something. I know its only putting things into place and screwing them down but hey if it'll make her happy.

Thanks Zetr0.
Just let me know how much ya want for the postage matey. Paypal waiting. Oh one other thing, i have always softmodded my XBOX consoles. Would you recommend a hardmod and if so which is the easiest chip to fit (without great deal of soldering) on a v1.6 and where to get it from? Mike |

erm.... easy and version 1.6 xbox dont really go hand in hand.
the 1.6v xbox is perhaps best soft modded and previous versions i would say a good hard mod . the 1.6 version was made to cut costs as well as negate hacking (like M$ had a chance) anyway long story short, irrespective of mod chip you choose you will have to re-build the LPC header, (this is 5 wires to solder) and then a further 3 wires. you can get these little bits of plastic card type stuff that do that work for you, personally I found them a little finiky, however I know peeps that swear by them lol. I suppose the best way is to show you so... have a lookie at the following luscious linkies, Now if you are going to spend money on a hard mod, I would recommend atleast an Xecutor 2.6CE, its a great mod chip at £20, there are cheaper, but this is the best in its price range and come with all the kit you need! (and pre-flashed to a cromwell flash bios) X2.6CE from www.kanection.co.uk for £20 best £20 modchip thats for sure theres lots of instructions on how to fit them, and if you need help i have plenty now lets have a sneak preview of what you need to do... now in the above image you notice the Xecutor LPC rebuild card pretty much does all the work for you, you will need to solder a wire from the D0 tab and a wire to a +5v source that will go to the mod chip, not forgetting you still need to install a 14pin header (2 rows of 7) all of that comes with the kit though, heres a link to more installation instructions LPC rebuild Header Installation any probs let me know I am sure I can help m8y I will post of the chassis if not tomorrow , it will be on Friday morning, if it costs any more than £5 I will consult you first |

@scrappy
Mike, Firstly congrats to you the wife & baby Theo. Regarding the XBox hardware mod, I took Zetro's advice & never looked back Kannections were <24Hr delivery too & the kit includes everything including the LPC header & the rebuild Foil for V1.6. even includes the switching & LED mini PCB which mounts on the front. I think V1.6 is a bit trickier, but take your time & follow Zetro's excellent tutorial on oldskool & you won't go wrong. I know Alex will probably shoot me for saying this but although hardmods are more expensive they are permanent & when installed properly (soldered) troublefree, also the modchip saves you having to mess with eeprom backups & unlocking locking HD's, the feature to lock & unlock the HD remains on the one bank of the Flashrom along with the cromwell BIOS for future updating. I have not looked back since hard modding my XBox which has now become a different beast altogether. Thanks Zetro Sorry for the OT guys TC All in all the Xecuter 2.6C is a superb kit, |

Thanks for the kind words TC. Guys, I am considering the 2.6CE modchip. However i'm not sure about the LPC rebuild. How do you guys feel about the Xapt3r 1.6 Solderless adapter? If i use this i believe it removes the need for the rebuild although it pushes the price up a little.
Also i have an xbox that i am purchasing from a local paper as faulty for £5 subject to collection. The fault with this machine is the HDD is completely dead and cannot be replaced as i dont know the HDD password so cannot lock a new drive. If i install the modchip into this machine instead will i be able to use any HDD without locking and read the Eeprom to find the HDD key and lock a "stock" HDD. Thanks for the help guys. Mike |
