Amiga 500 ROMs
ok peopel im a bit confused, sorry for it being such a noobish question
thinking of upgrading the roms in my amiga 500 from 1.3 to 2.05 or 2.5 1.3 requests the kickstart floppy to gain access to the workbench, does 2.05 and 2.5 also? |

yeah, sure, they all do require floppy for wb.
someone somewhere said about trying to build 1Mb kickstart that would have all required libs and stuff so that it would not require diskette. (if i remember correctly) |

1.3 can boot from hard drive (such as A590) if you have one on the side of the machine.
If you have no hard drive (or other device such as CDROM) then all Amigas will request a floppy. How else will they load Workbench? It isn't all in the ROM. Ed: 1.3 isn't requesting a Kickstart disk, it's showing you that Kickstart has already loaded... |

as above a a590 or similar is your best bet to load straight to wb, they still come up on e-bay now and again but can demand a fair price
What is it you mainly want to do with your 500? |

There is no such thing as 2.5 ROM!
The ROM chips the A500 can take are 1.2, 1.3, 2.04 (up to 37.199 with no IDE support, but bootable using any external device, the same as 1.3) and 3.1. |

The A500 will take a 2.05 ROM 37.350 just fine.

Firstly, why on earth would you upgrade to 2.x?
Secondly, I would advise against upgrading unless you are planning to install a kickswitch. Using a kickstart other than 1.x will break compatibility with plenty of games/demos. |

If you do not have a hard drive then there is no point at all upgrading beyond KS1.3
All upgrading will do is make a good percentage of games STOP working. |
