Or take a look at your receipt. My guess is v5 if you did not get from eBayz.

You only need to put a driver in Expansion if you for some reason have disabled autoboot and still want to use the controller, otherwise the driver is loaded from the ROM on the GVP controller.

Speaking of the driver in ROM, which version of gvpscsi.device do you have? I think I have read something about the older versions of them not working with HDToolBox.

Solved!!! Success!! Hooray!!

Thanks for all your help mark k, Sinphaltimus and patrik.

The solution was simply change in the HDtools / tool types from SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=device to SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=gvpscsi.device.

Something which Mark K said to do at the beginning of this sage, but for some daft reason I didn't spot the "gvp" was missing from "gvpscsi" in the tool types and it still only said SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=device

Workbench all now loaded onto the SD card and it's all booting from the HD and working fine.

An early xmas present! Thanks for all your help, very very much appreciated.

I've now managed to setup the SD card as a harddisk in Winuae, so I can emulate my own A500 to move files into the harddisk easily from the internet, and then swap the SD card back to my A500. Just gets better and better.
Thanks once again and have a great new year, may all our Amiga Dreams come true.

How are you using the SD card in WinUAE? Are you using a SCSI interface on the PC or is it being read with a USB card reader?

I just got one of these SCSI2SD devices and while I can set it up and use it on my Amiga, my cheap PCI card doesn't work with my two computers I tried it in and the drive is not showing up in WinUAE.

Thanks,
Wayne

USB card reader.

The first one I used was not recognised by winuae when I added it as a harddisk. I persevered because I've managed to do this previously with a cf card and my A1200 and winuae. I tried with a second usb card (perhaps a little more modern) and this time the SD card was recognised properly when added as a harddisk as RDG harddisk, and recognised by Windows.

Steps I followed ultimately were:

1. prepared the SD card in the SCSI2SD card connected to the pc
2. swapped the SD card and SCSISD card to the amiga, and set the partitions using HDtools. Formatted the partitions and loaded wB3.1.
3. Swapped the SD card into a usb in the pc and added it as a harddisk in winuae

Try these steps and a few different usb sticks.

Thanks, I will keep trying different combinations until I find one that works.

I got a cheap card reader when I was out the other day and now I can read the partititions of my Micro SD card in WinUAE, I did not know that there were compatibility issues with different card readers.

I got this USB card reader https://www.frys.com/product/8580669...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG I don't know if this model is available outside the U.S..

With my two other USB card readers, my MicroSD card was showing up as a "Generic Storage Device" in WinUAE, with the new reader it shows up as "Mass Storage Device".
Maybe this will help someone save some time trying solve this particular issue.

Cool. Well done. Yes I wish someone could have told me, because it took me, and everyone who helped me on EAB, ages to work this out. It's good to find the solution though isn't it!

Yes it was nice to find out that it was not just me being a Moron.
Had I not read your thread I would have probably given up hope of transferring files without using a SCSI card in my PC.

Careful using the sd card in winuae if you have created several virtual drives in the sd2scsi utility. Winuae won't see them as separate devices.

A safe way to do it would be :
1. Set up sd card in sd2scsi utility. Write down disk geometry settings
2. Put sd card into USB reader and start winuae
3. Use HD tools to prepare the sd card but use the geometry settings from the *first* virtual drive created in step 1
4. Format, set up workbench, etc. Copy things across as needed
5. Put sd card back in amiga. Set up the remaining virtual devices.

You'll get weird behavior if winuae creates a disk definition which doesn't match what the Amiga sees.
