I didn't ask which demos are "the best". God, I'm not that frigging vulgar!

IIRC, I used the word "great", which is a word that implies "objective", "appreciated by sceners" (who were no doubt the qualified critics!)at the time. Or if it doesn't, that's what I meant by it.

Not true. Odyssey won the compo at TP1 and it is hardly considered the best demo of that time.

Indeed Not sure that's the same guy though, even if both use Hannibal.

@Falcon Flight
Now that the 'real' thread has started, you get recommendations. Simply asking about which demos people here would recommend could have saved us some time and unnecessary posts. Just saying with hindsight

Please, don't tell me what I may think, you don't know me.

Other people's informed opinions of course count, I was merely suggesting that you don't slavishly follow the opinion of others at the expense of forming your own, that's all.

Be guided, not led. Have fun and enjoy your own journey of discovery.

If I say to you "as you may think", that does _not_ imply that I think I know you, but if I said "as you think", then that _would_. Please learn to read English and understand what is written in it before you repond to me in the future because this is getting tiresome!

About "slavishly following the opinions of others", have I not said I respect them, and can accept them, _without_ subscribing to them? It all comes down to comprehension skills, "fella". Or maybe you're willfuly misinterpreting me, in which case the word "troll" once again comes to mind.

Heeehehe! hehe!

Then you would have said what you did say anyway and this thread would have been mostly the same regardless!

Besides, believe it or not, I'm a little shy when it comes to the demo scene. Maybe that's part of why this has been so awkward?

Yawn.

You just want to argue - have you really read what I posted? I suggested some demos for you to look at and I would genuinely like you to enjoy looking at them and not just those but other demos too.

If that to you is trolling well, fair enough, at least you actually formed an opinion about something on your own so that's a positive for you.

OK, I'll go with the word "Great" and not "best". still doesn't change my mind though, you're only adding to the complexity of the list you already have.

Yeah, I read pretty well man.
Anyway, thanks for your recommendations; I'll certainly check them out.
(And pity you for your last, trollish remark.)

DOS/Andromeda is also an old favourite, think it was released at the same party as state of the art and personally think its better than state of the art.

Sunjohn later renamed to Hannibal. So yes, same coder.

Glad to see my memory is working better with old school demos than it was at the weekend and forgetting to alter the time on my alarm clock then

First that springs to mind is Spreadpoint's Cube-O-Matic

TCD: is that "textured" 3D bust vectors as in lines or polygons. I can't tell.

All right. Having problems downloading that one right now, StingRay.

I used to work a lot using Maya in visual effects and we used to shift a shit load of polygons around, slowing computers down.

Do you know of an example of a high polygon-count animated model, even if that's just a rotating sphere or something? I'm very interested to see how far my A500 can be pushed with the ~8MHz CPU (I assume here that the custom chips don't help much with 3D, since many Atari ST owners tend to proclaim supremacy in 3D).

When it comes to texture mapping, the custom chips don't help much, except for the c2p (chunky to planar) where the blitter is used to speed up the conversion process. The ST has an advantage due to its bitplane format which makes c2p conversion much faster and simpler.

9 Fingers is an overhyped anim player, just like SOTA was. No texture mapping there.
