Clarification on Amiga A1200 with PC Monitor
Hi Guys, i have recieved such wonderful help so far with the problem hardware and software i had i just wanted some more information.
I am looking to use my amiga A1200 with a PC monitor so my partner can still watch the TV, (i know i can use a small portable but it wouldnt look right on my PC desk). I currently have the Digimate L-1715 LCD monitor running my PC and was wondering how i would go about using either it or an old 15" CRT I have with the Amiga? I have looked at the possibility of a Commodore 1084s monitor but can only seem to find them in Germany or USA, and they are quite pricey to ship over! I have found various converters to convert the scart connector to a VGA for use with a monitor but i would like to know whether i will be able to use with a standard PC monitor (LCD or CRT) or whether i'm gonna need some sort of Scan Doubler (still not sure what these are) as i have been reading on a few websites? Thanks for any help. Mike |

The PC monitors you have mentioned will be great for Workbench usage, however games, demos, and any other software which uses a native Amiga screenmode will not work without a scandoubler which doubles the 15khz horizontal scan to 31khz.
PC monitors which can handle both of these frequencies do exist, and are known as Multisync monitors. However I think your best option is to look at investing in another TV. |

You cannot use a scandoubler with your current LCD. It wont work as your LCD cannot sync to 50Hz.
Your best solution would be to buy an LCDTV from Tesco's or Sainsburys etc. £100 for a 15", £130 for a 17" (Try to get a 4:3 rather than a widescreen). Make sure it has a SCART and a VGA connector. Then flog your old LCD to a mate down the pub. Both the Amiga and PC would connect to one monitor, and it would be a TV too There are always one or two UK Commodore 1084s, Philips CM8833 and Microvitec M1438S monitors on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=220199109167 Bare in mind they are 20 yo.
