NTSC power supply on PAL machine
I have a American a500 power supply I want to use on a European a600. I know that the power supplies are interchangeable on the 500 and 600 but I'm curious about this region difference. Aren't both machines expecting the same DC power on the other side of the transformer? Or is there actual need for a step up/down converter? (Which I already have just was hoping to circumvent using it)
Cheers Amiga friends! |

The American PSUs expect ~110 VAC on the primary side, the European ones expect ~230 VAC. You will have a nice electrical fire if you feed them the incorrect voltage. The secondary side is the same on either type, as long as the primary is correct.
So, if you are in America and use an American PSU, all will be fine. The computer will get the voltages it expects. |

As long as the AC Mains voltage matches the a500 power supply's expected AC input voltage then there should be no power related issues.
The only issue you may get is if the A600 is a PAL machine and your monitor/TV can only display an NTSC video signal. Note - most modern big name brand TVs are now internationalized so they will work with PA, NTSC, & SECAM video signals. |

Thanks guys, I already thought it would work but I just wanted to make sure.
As for the display I already have a external scan doubler for my a500 so I have no issue there! Thanks again. |

I have a few PAL machines that I run with 110v US power supplies, no problems at all.

As mentioned, it is not an issue with the A500/A600 (or A1200 for that matter) since the PSU is all DC outputs, but the frequency would matter for some big box Amigas like the A2000 since it uses a 'tick' signal, which is a clock signal derived from the mains frequency. A PAL A2000 would expect a 50 Hz signal, so it would probably mess up some things if it were to get a 60 Hz tick signal which it would is US (with a US PSU).
