I'm all for this, but an easier way might be to just code a very fast all-purpose racing engine with a sprite/scenery/background editor / contruction kit. Then the fans could make their own Outrun/Lotus/ChaseHQ games and share them. There would be absolutely no point hacking the Saga outrun 'effort' as this was a dire port and the worst driving game I've ever played. Outrun Europa was certainly more colourful and much more playable, but still very slow and coded for the 000. Chase HQ was also a dire port. Basically, we'd need the speed of the Crazy Cars III engine, with the smoothness of the Jag XJ220 engine, and an AGA colour range like the Outrun arcade machine. In the meantime I'll stick to Mame.

There is a guy that has disassembled the outrun arcade code

Maybe you should ask him Sandruzzo ?

I have the same feeling !
As for racing games, one of my all time favorite is the good old "The great american country cross road race" on the C64. An Amiga port would be great. I've always wondered about how fun would be a multiplayer network version of t.g.a.c.c.r.r. the possibility to race against other human players would add a lot of fun (like in "Cannonball Run") I think.

Now thats an idea !!! A network race game just like cannonball run....A race to a destination using any realistic route you like with all realistic events all in real time...

And just so i stay on topic it could be in AGA

ANY new racing game (even if it supports AGA) is a QL stuff.

Nowadays MAME is even running on slow PCs, so I don't see the point in a new Amiga conversion. I'd really like to see a good Mille Miglia game on the Amiga. The idea of Simulmondo's game was great, but unfortunately the game was just rubbish.

Well that makes no sense whatsoever. Any game is welcome.
But as it is, this thread is just about wishful thinking and adding gradients to dreadful games , and nothing about a new racer for Amiga

OK, maybe I should have asked: can you play MAME games on Amiga and at the SAME TIME enjoy them?
I've tried MAME WarpUp some years ago with my PPC+BVision setup and only some old games were playable. Try P.O.W. for example, it's dead slow....

I think a dream scenario would be if shaun southern gave the source code from the lotus series to the community :-) An optimised version for AGA machines could top the Arcade version surely..But that's the dreamer in me..

Shall we make a new thread? Port Lotus to AGA with 256 colours and blackjack? I'd be in

On a little bit more serious note I'd second what Akira said. Talking is nice, but making a better racing game is sooooo much sweeter

It would be great fun to see that outrun re-build working in UAE.
Presumably real hardware would choke at fullscreen 60 fps in c++ code though.

The 2nd 68000 program for the road would have to go, and we would better need to wait for the commented and explained ASM code ressourced. Because the guy who did the ressourcing has commented the ASM ressourced code This would help if someone would want to recode the game for A1200
