Missing IDE Pin

Hi,

I just noticed that a pin is missing from the IDE connector on the second-hand MB I brought. It's on the opposite end to pin 1 (same side).

Questions:

1) What does that pin do and will it work without it?
2) If not, can it be fixed?

Thanks

That should be pin 43 (GND).

Not needed if you're using a 2.5" - 3.5" Adapter (not likely with an A1200/600) - you'll be getting power from elsewhere...

So the GND may well be needed if plugging in a 'real' 2.5" device.

Link

Pins 41 - 44 are basically power for 2.5" drives.

Can you solder at all? - easy to fix if you can - The pin is likely snapped off rather than pulled out...
...find a bit of metal that will do for a replacement, hold against the relevant contact, heat solder from other side...
...solder flows, pin sticks - job done. - Maybe not good enough for repeated plugging/unplugging.

If the pin has been pulled from the mobo, it's possible the track is (semi)buggered in which case if it was me I'd not bother trying to repair - I'd just grab a GND from elsewhere & bodge it into the plastic IDE header.

PS:
Worth trying anyway without any of the above - with luck the drive will use a GND from elsewhere on the header...
...with bad luck, something goes 'pop'. (not likely)

Hope that helps.

Well not too bad, it seems that the missing pin doesn't make any difference. The CF still works fine, even the HD LED works

Update: Just found out that some idiot (not me!) has bent all of the PCMCIA pins

It also needs the timing fixes applied.
