Unfortunately, even ZIPZAG uses total commander's plugins to extract LZX files....

Found this thread while I was looking for a way to extract the nice whdload updates from KG.
Unlzx doesn't want to run the *.* or *.lzx input and running each file name is a bit to bothersome imo. Unlzx: http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/pub/amine...c/W95unlzx.lha otoh is the official PC port, and doesn’t need any other plugins or programs The solution is a simple cmd “script” that takes every lzx fil in a directory and extracts them. Unlzx must be available, either in the dir or in a global path. Code:
for %X IN (*.lzx) DO unlzx -x %X Hope it's of some use. Last edited by spiff; 29 October 2005 at 14:14. |

Nearly 3 years after the last reply to this thread, thought I'd add my own...lol.
Total Commander for the PC works a treat. It's like D.Opus, so it's pretty intuitive. all You need to do is d/l & install the LZX plugin (just d/l it, find it & open it in one of the windows & follow the instructions, it installs automatically). Just been using it to unpack KillerGorillas WHDLoad Games packs, then tested them in WinUAE. No probs reported whatsoever. |

I used to just extract them on my PC using WinRAR and copy them over to my miggy on a CF card.
I never found a simple and fast app for extraction on my Amiga. I was looking for something simple and effective with a nice GUI, something like ADF blitzer. I used to love that app |

You must have found some really old WHD packs if they where LZX archives. Total Commander is a must have, I know I couldn't do without it. Btw who was it that did the packs before KillerGorilla went into action ? |

Most archivers support lha unpacking. I had the need for lzx on the pc i used this on xp pc.
It must have worked or else i wouldn't have kept it. I think winuae supported for this. Or was that lzx based images to adf, i've no winuae manual to check. I heard total commander has support for both, haven't tested. Will have to check it, need it with a rmb context menu ability. Edit: Have got total commander running, got many plugins. Just getting to grips with it. Gotta say to configure the plugins its gui is fiddly, and buggy. I'm left with entering them manualy into its .ini file, no harm done there. I've tested it with a few formats so far lzx, rar and zip works. Next testing adf, dms disk type images. Just read its supports the likes of installer executables, now i'm going to give them a good testing. More for the Setup Factory v7 that other win32 extractors cannot unpack. Drat got stuck on implementing multiarc wcx plugin, for all its file types. Try it as normal, lots of extensions to ad there. Thankfully not so many as the amiga multi archiver extractors have. I'll be still at it in a month/year if it had. Last edited by exoticaga; 21 May 2008 at 04:52. |

I had some images stored in an lzx file, for some reason "unpack lzx" in DirOpus didn't want to handle it.
Just wanted to leave this link for the next one who looks, I downloaded the Windows 95 version and it solved it perfectly: http://xavprods.free.fr/lzx/ |

I have a fast solution for you my friends !
download uniextract, install it (windows). and rename your .lzx in .cab and it seems to work beautifully. just right click on your file and select uniextract to... a link to universal extractor : https://www.legroom.net/software ps: i just extract a demo and make it run with winuae ! it runs like a charm ! enjoy |

Excellent finding, turrican3!
Uncompressing LZX files with UniExtract works great. But there is no need to rename the LZX extension into CAB. Just select an LZX file and use "Open with", activate "Always open with this application" and choose the UniExtract program path. Once done, all LZX files are assigned to UniExtract automatically. Btw, I'm using UniExtract 2.0.0 from: http://bioruebe.com/dev/uniextract/ Last edited by PeterK; 24 September 2017 at 03:13. |

Thanks guys! Much faster to use than Total Commander when I just want to unpack an lzx archive quickly. I'm not sure how this little gem of a program hasn't been mentioned until now, given that's it's been in development for over a decade! |
