Re: Toki Demo??

Hello all,

I managed to acquire what I consider to be a rare Ocean promo/demo release of Toki housed in a special sleeve, however, when the item was sent to me I believe the disk had possibly been formatted as it just stays at the initial workbench boot screen, it would be nice to know if this was a disk that was sent to software houses to review or preview in magazines and maybe different to all the other versions that are available, is there anyway to salvage this disk or does anybody have anymore information on it? Hope somebody can help,

Aaron.

Maybe try to load WorkBench and insert Toki disk as only bootblock may be a problem.

WHat machine are you trying it with? It may be expecting an older kickstart to be able to boot. I Would try it in a 1.2 OCS machine.

I know for sure that standard Toki on an A1200 would not run unless you disable CPU caches at the startup boot menu..

It may be that the floppy is demagnetized, tries to make a copy of the disc, and groped to repair this copy with "FixDisk".

In the old TOSEC 2007 dats there were:

... Toki (demo-playable) (1991)(Ocean)[cr QTX].adf
... Toki (demo-playable) (1991)(Ocean)[cr QTX][a].adf

I haven't thoroughly checked, but from a quick glance they don't seem to be in the latest TOSEC 2016 dats anymore unfortunately; maybe they were fake or renamed

Anyway, can upload to The Zone! if anyone wants to take a looksie?

Ah yes, in the latest TOSEC 2016 dats these files are renamed as follows:

... Toki (demo-playable) (1991)(Ocean)[cr QTX].adf --> Toki (1991)(Ocean)(pre-release)[cr QTX].adf
... Toki (demo-playable) (1991)(Ocean)[cr QTX][a].adf --> Toki (1991)(Ocean)(pre-release)[cr QTX][f AGA DCS].adf

Please don't try to fix the disk. Dump it with the Kryoflux tool free for Amiga on your 1200 or your Kryoflux board if you own one, and post it, i will check it for you

EDIT : i think i know what it is, this is actually a press kit of Toki distributed to a video mag journalist.

You're indeed lucky to got this one
