Higan (former BSNES) is the most accurate SNES emu out there, the system requirements are also a lot higher though.
Speedy Gonzales is 100% playable & completable in this emu unlike Snes9x, ZSNES for instance.

Good to see you back, DamienD.

I've still got your first DVD. All the files and ROM's are on my laptop (along with many other emulator and games acquired elsewhere). The installation process was painless back then and the whole transfer to PC nice and straight-forward.

Nice to know you've updated it all though and looks like you've put in a great deal of work!

Has the updated version been uploaded? Is there a direct link to FTP?

Yup, the .ISO file is on the "EAB File Server" under "~Uploads\DamienD"

Hmmm, I don't have "Windows 8" / "Windows 8.1" at home so couldn't completely test. I know that my file structure and desktop path should also work in "Windows 8" / "Windows 8.1" though...

A friend tested the DVD for me on his "Windows 8" computer and had issues. Investigated further and this was due to the way "Windows 8" / "Windows 8.1" handles "MountedDevices" in the registry as opposed to "Windows XP / Windows 7"...

I've now updated my setup files to accommdate both the scenarios. I'll re-uploaded the fixed .ISO file tonight when I get home.

For those "Windows 8" / "Windows 8.1" users who have already downloded the .ISO file; just extract using "WinRAR" to say "C:\___", then extract the attached archive to "C:\___\SNES\DESKTOP" and finally reburn to a DVD.

Not knowing better, I had the bad luck to start with this... The emulator did run most of the games but -unfortunately- it did with huge lags and framedrops (for no apparent reason). Some games were still playable and you could only notice the framedrop with the slow playing music. Others (ex. Aladdin) simply crawled from the start.
Up to this day I regret not having the patience to look a bit further... this totally ruined my experience with FFIII which I did finish using ZNES.
At some point I saw a video with footage of FFIII running on real hardware and I was like... wtf! So I did my research and I finally settled with BSNES which instantly solved all issues I had.
Are you using "Windows 8" or "Windows 8.1" per chance?

Noticed that both emulators didn't run very well at all on these operating systems when I tested this afternoon...

Nice work...

I am still using I believe Retroplay's GB-SuperNES or something like that at home.

As for emulators, all games I ever played worked fine with ZSNES, but again, I did not play many of them.

@ Retro - Are you still doing youtube videos? Can't remember last time I saw one...

Nope I deleted my account ages ago when they got the "bright" idea to link all the Google-crap with youtube.

Btw, is it Super GameBase, I completely forgot about that ?

Ohhh... to bad. I loved your videos, some of them made me actually finally finish some games that otherwise I never managed to finish. You made it look way too easy.

I still remember cursing @ Robocop arcade..

BTW, haven't checked or updated GB in ages... are those projects still alive? (Amiga, SuperNES, Atari ST and C64) I remember looking for one for ZX Spectrum, but never found one as good as rest of those projects.

@ DamienD, sorry for little off-topic, I remember original DVD ages ago...

GB64 is alive and kicking, it's currently at v13.
If you don't have it, you can grab it from link below.

I don't suppose anyone has tried this out as yet?

Any comments / feedback good or bad would be cool.

I now know the emulators chosen doesn't work well on Windows 8 / 8.1 but that can't be helped... They do work on Windows XP / Windows 7 very well so.

Perhaps the Snes9x testbuild works better in 8/8.1 ?

Sure, I can always give it a bash.

The thing is time and also the fact that I don't have Windows 8 / 8.1 installed on any of my laptops.

It's not to say that I won't try though; also for the sake of my brother (and that's the reason why I updated this old project which was really for use on Windows XP being back in 2005).

I did try "Higan" as you suggested on my Windows 7 64bit / Intel i5 2.3GHz / NVIDIA GT 540M / 8GB laptop but it ran like a dog... If I was to implement different versions / new emulators then I don't want to break the existing Windows XP / Windows 7 compatibility so would need to come up with an additional file structure to keep this in place.

To make a SNES DVD that works perfectly across 3 / 4 Windows operating systems which have been over 10+ years... Definitely possible but more work

What about using a standalone virtual machine setup which will run on all Windows OS?

It comes in three flavours, performance, balanced & accuracy, accuracy being the most system demanding version.
Did you try performance or balanced ?

Yeah tried all 3 options. Also "scanlines" didn't work

Played with the last version of BNES; slightly better on my Win 7 laptop but was disappointed with the lack of masks / filters.

Also the way both emulators display the list of games and few other small things I've forgotten now.

Only played around for half-an-hour; may re-visit soon
