Which Amiga games were better than their PC counterparts?
I have always been a PC guy. It would be interesting to play some old classics on an Amiga if the version is better.

Starflight 1 and 2 (Trade Routes of the Cloud Nebula).
(Yeah, my standard answer to everything.) Better graphics, nicer controls (mouse+keyboard instead of just keyboard). Although, to be fair, the Amiga versions were released 2 to 3 years after the respective PC versions (1986 PC, 1989 Amiga for Starflight 1; 1989 PC, 1991 Amiga for Starflight 2, I think). p.s. I don't care whether anybody cares. |

Enough time has passed since the last time I tried WinUAE, so this program could have been improved. However when I tried WinUAE I remember it run well ATR and other games but I saw their scrollings were not smooth like real Amiga. Therefore, to test which version is better, in my opionion you have to consider PC Vs. real Amiga.

Back in the 90's when PC's started to get VGA conversion, the PC versions generally looked better, but the Amiga versions scrolled much better... Give me smooth scrolling over 256cols everyday..

you can config winuae to scroll like a real amiga you need a fast computer,a descent gfx card and a monitor capable of 100hz and 120hz for example on winuae to play any PAL game you should choose for ex 1024x768/100hz PAL ....and set native mode to FULL SCREEN+VSYNC to play any NTSC game ..... idem config but 120hz using that configs on winuae you can delight smooth scroll like a real amiga bye |

Bloodwych.
the PC version beeps and manages to give characters purple skin. i wonder how well the pc version handles two joysticks as well.... @ laser you are making the bold assumption that someone's monitor can handle those refresh rates. I know mine cant, i suspect a lot of others cant. |

I think that the PC took loong time in equaling the Amiga scroll (perhaps until the first pentium?) I was obsessed by the amount of colors VGA Vs.OCS back in the days but now I realize a good movement is better.
I remember a Spanish PC game named PC fútbol, the worse scroll than I have seen in my life!!! although with 256 colors of course Last edited by frikilokooo; 29 February 2008 at 11:34. |

I think sound was a big issue (certainly the further back you go). I remember seeing somebody playing Dune 2 on a supposedly powerful pc and the sound was horrible - although he may have skimped on the sound hardware, but that was never an issue on the Amiga. I seem to remember being quite impressed by screenshots of flightsims in 256 colours (and Golf games) with their stinking byte per pixel technology, but when you actually saw these things, the sound was often awful. |

Generally most Amiga versions were better, as long as the PC version was CGA/Hercules or EGA only. As soon as VGA and Soundblaster became standard, most PC versions were better, although there are exceptions to this rule.
And of course there are a lot of really good games that were never released on the PC. |
