Heck. In competent hand, even the SID sounds nicer than most lowend FM synths (such as the ones in the Genesis/MD or the early PC soundcards)

You should write when the amiga was created and the megradrive before the video. Because one thing is sure the amiga was really older and wasn't ridiculous and in some way it could still better. |

The "Paula" handled 4 channels of digital audio, while the Megadrive has a Z80 for digital audio processing (which sounded like arse) and ANOTHER chip for FM SYNTHESIS., which is the chip most everyone is comparing to. When there's actually no comparison. and some MAD things can be chieved with that FM Synth that you can't do with the Amiga, specially it's good to have in mind this will all be smallish data, since no need is there for samples, making it a brilliant addition to any hardware setuip (why didn't they put an ensoniq FM or wavetable chip in the Amiga, coupled to the Paula?) Comparing between machines is always rather stupid. Each one can do whatever you want within their limitations. You have to know where to cut down and where to upgrade regarding the machine capabilities. That's why there are very few nice conversions, they use to fuck them up. Personally, I think a console like the Megadrive has a load of advantages over the Amiga, for one, software loaded from ROM cartridges. The original Amiga concept had a cartridge port for software (remember, it was conceived as a games machine). I wish they would have kept that, Amiga cartridge software would be fucking KILLER. One last thing: am I the only person who thinks copper-banding is ridiculously UGLY? I always hated those backgrounds. |

Thunderforce IV and Shinobi III on Genesis show what music they could achieve with that little black box...

Personally I'd point at the Streets of Rage games, particularly, Streets of Rage 2.
Amazing job by Yuzo Koshiro (he made music for Shinobi III as well) |

No, he composed Revenge of Shinobi. Most of what he composed / programmed was first-rate.

Megadrive was only a little faster because it didnt had to place floppy contents into its memory, as the name suggests the memory card works just AS a memory.
Anyway i believe that consoles are the future as well as MMORPG and ONLINE games, software piracy is pushing the market into this direction, methinks. Something i miss from Amiga little games is the uncompromised playing time, today games are very immersive, great graphics in a dumb excuse to waste any time playing.I also miss that dialogues like in Indiana Jones and the Faith of Atlantis or the Secret of Monkey Island, Larry series and so many others. |

I would not compare the limited YM2612 against the Paula, they are far to different in their approach to generating sound. I like the YM because I prefer the old school sound. The Paula is just a simple chip that can sample and replay those sounds, it has no character, but that gives it a distinct advantage over the YM2612. In my opinion the best creations are those that have been taken from a limited scope, such as the SID chip.

Yeah that's right the scene is huge
But you need special hardware to use it (or an emulator of course ). @Yotoxionomai : Oh this talk of 'consoles win, because they are cheaper and there is no piracy' lasts about 15 or more years. Still the PC is widely supported by developers and publishers. It's nothing personal, but I can't stand that s**t anymore. The PC game market is worth billions of dollars and I will stay like that in the future. Piracy harmed the market for more than 20 years and there was never a noticible drop in produced games. But you are right about online games. They are the way of the future. Okay and for the sound : Does anyone really thinks the MegaDrive sounds better? He must have listened to the best MD music and the worst on the Miggy |

Gods is better on the MD? Why? The sound is crap and the GFX is not different. It's not faster nor smoother than on the Miggy. Well most of that games are at least equal on the Amiga. And 70-80%? There are games like Rolling Thunder or Golden Axe (yeah I know ) that are better on the miggy, but most games are better because of the sound/music and the choice from 4096 colors instead of 256. Okay that was just my humble opinion
