Playing games in SCUMM VM on WINUAE?

Is it possible to play games with an Amiga version of SCUMM in WINUAE? If so, what Amiga version of SCUMM VM works best in WINUAE and what WINUAE settings will make it run the best?

Which games would you like to run with ScummVM on a virtual Amiga, that not either run with pure WinUAE or ScummVM ? You can install (nearly) all LucasFilm/Arts games on HD that require disk swapping

All Lucas Arts Amiga game versions runs fine in ScummVM PC. ScummVM running on a Amiga makes only sense if you don't have a PC.

I agree. you have to be an amiga ultra-nationalist to play scumm vm on winuae!
BTW does scumm vm can break the annoying code protections? is there a crack database or you have to patch data files manually ?

ScummVM removes all code protections. That's another reason to use it rather than DosBox (or WinUAE... )

Not true. AFAIK ScummVM developers' policy is to remove copy protection only if there's at least one official retail version of the game without protection or if there's an agreement with the copyright holders.

Hmm, all LucasFilm/Arts games have removed code protections and that on every platform. You can play the Amiga version of Loom without the code protection and as far as I know there is no version of Amiga Loom without it. Maybe the authors have a special agreement with LucasArts to remove the code protection and it's still in there for other companies.

Edit : Found the wiki about the code protection bypass : http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Us..._Using_ScummVM (scroll down a bit)
Interesting fact is that also Indiana Jones (both Last Crusade and Fate of Atlantis) don't have the copy protection anymore...

Their policy doesn't seem to be platform specific, just game specific. I guess Loom PC CD, FM Towns and/or PC Engine versions doesn't have the protection (I rather doubt they have an agreement with LA), so all Loom versions (regardless of the original platform) don't have the protection in ScummVM. For example Future Wars/Operation Stealth should have copy protection. When they merged CinE project for those games, protection was bypassed, but because of their policy and the way the circumvention was done caused problems, so it's there again.

You're right Thor. The protection for Future Wars is still there. Okay let's put it this way : ScummVM removes the code protection for the LucasFilm/Arts games and some others

I do not play it in Winue, but i have a question about Scumm, maybe somebody knows.

Is there a way to hide the output window when launching a FM-Towns version ?
(Zak McKraken, Loom)

That can cause problems on a real Amiga (at least in the 2015 030 version that i use)
and then stuck on a grey screen...

I tried, Window=Nil: but that did not help (because its a gadget window, i guess)
Are there any Tooltypes or so?

Any Ideas Guys ?

What output window? I'm using both the 2015 and 2023 Amiga port of ScummVM to play Zak McKracken for FM TOWNS and there is no additional window.

What does it output? Complaining about missing files maybe?

It dosent "know" those games; thats why.

Sadly, this is the latest 030 AGA version (1.5). NovaCoder
http://aminet.net/package/game/misc/ScummVM_AGA_030

There is a newer 030 Version that recognize those FM-Towns games; but its only ECS ........

If I recall correctly Novacoders versions dont support all games available in their respective SCUMMVM versions.
I remember using other versions available for the Amiga to play games like Broken Sword 2 because Novacoder's versions at the time only supported games that a real 68k Amiga would be able to run (I was using Amithlon at the time). Im not sure if he went on to do "full" versions as well, but thought it might be worth mentioning.
Cant hurt to try some of the other versions, but bare in mind that the versions on Aminet are a lot older than what is available.

Hmmm, could somebody build this for 030 AGA ?
(only for the Lucasfilm/arts games and no message when audiotracks are missing)

https://github.com/betajaen/scummvm-amigaos3

sounds promising

Hours later ..........

I know now why the FM Towns games stuck on a grey Screen.

It depends on the Chip Speed/Cycles. Those games work in WinUAE, but if you lower the Cycle Speed in WinUAE...... same result as on Hardware.

Stuck on grey screen.

Odd, the VGA games work great, but the FM Towns need more cycles ?? hmmmm

Those FM Towns games stuck, because the footprint of AHI on the CPU is too big.

Its so heavy on the CPU that the game cant run. (even turning off music & sfx wont change a thing)

Well, that was something...
