I ve been thinking about building a big shed like games rooms thingy in the garden!! Anyone taken the plunge already. I see you can get pretty sizeable insulated ones that are almost like a spare room at not a bad cost. This sort of thing is what I was thinking about. Might even have space for a small bar!

@Paul, post more pics, I love them

Did you make that cabinet according to guide in Retrogamer mag? Is it difficult? I wanna build universal cabinet for 37 cm CRT TV, console and arcade stick.

Have a look here and you can see the big one working.

[ Show youtube player ]

Building it cabinet wise is easy. Getting all your emulators to work in conjunction with your front end is the nightmare although I highly recommend
Gameex!! Partly as it supports WHDLoad on WINUAE, and Partly as its much simpler to setup than the other front ends.

If you need a pointer in the right direction or help with which parts to use and where to get em just ask

Man! I would replace that desk top with something a little sturdier mate. Or attach some angle iron, front and back, to prevent it from snapping in the middle. It would be a shame if all of your equipment ended up in a heap on the floor.

Apart from that, nice, I wish I could have the whole wall to my equipment, but I ain't got the room

Ahhh...the joys of being single!....

I put that up as a tempory work surface...it's actauly fixed and sturdier than it looks.

I have a length of black worktop to go in its place.....when i have the time.

What is it, 1/2 inch chipwood?

It may be sturdy but without the laminate coating it's surely a lot weaker. Anyway, replace that ASAP

When I made my desk for my A500 back in the late 80's, mine sagged almost the same as that and it was laminated too, it eventually showed signs of cracking so I screwed some angle iron to the full length of the front, it worked a treat. I had that desk up until 2003, best designs are the ones that are made around your needs, and that desk was based around my A500 then modified slightly for the A1200. Shame I don't have any pics of it to show, it was an awesome design but alas it is lost forever

Its MDF, not chipboard, it will be used to make shelving under the worktop.

And carcinogenic so wear a mask for the dust unless you enjoy lung cancer

I swear by a 40mm thick worktop design, with underneath constructed from 18mm MDF. Always built to size of room/space and at some stage I can re-locate my computers within the house (subject to spousal approval) to a larger room - I envisage a long bench with 3 or 4 monitors and various kit plugged in, inc games consoles. She'll never agree!!
