Does anyone know when you Autohue a toaster do you use Fullframe or SMPTE color bars or does it even matter?
Thanks! |

not having any clue, unfortunatly, but the videotoaster faq talks about the manual hardware setup. here the screenshots say "SMPTE color bars".

You need to only do it once, when you install the toaster or change cards. On the Toaster 4000, it is very easy. You need to feed it a stable non moving video signal that isn't fed through a TBC. The Toaster manual recommends a signal from a video camera and that is what I use. Just follow the procedure in the Toaster manual.

I was going to use SMPTE color bars as that is what the toaster generates on the preview monitor.
I am waiting for my Horita Color bar generator. B&H sells them for $500 and I got one on fleabay for $35 I tried with my video camera but the flyer digital buffers don't match the colors of the material so I will use color bars as the colors generated should match perfectly and then when I capture video on my flyer everything will match. Thanks! |

That should work fine. A lot of old analog video gear is going for a song these days. I've gotten lots of accessories for my Toaster/Flyer for really low prices.
The Toaster generates most of the signals for the autohue internally. In the original Toaster, you had to patch the output to input 2. In the Toaster 4000, there is an internal connection. After that part of the process is completed, a screen comes on asking you to connect a video source to input 1. There is a separate procedure to calibrate the Flyer to the Toaster that has to be done after the autohue. The same video source can be used for both. I had some color issues but they weren't caused by the Toaster or Flyer cards or the TBCIV. I was feeding the video from a video switcher with a built in distribution amp and the amp just didn't work with the Toaster. I got another one that worked and since then, I've had gorgeous video quality. |
